[ovirt-users] live merge of snapshots failed
Hello I have a situation with a vm in which I cannot delete the snapshot. The whole thing is quite strange because I can delete the snapshot when I create and delete it from the web interface but when I do it with a python script through the API it failes. The script does create snapshot-> download snapshot-> delete snapshot and I used the examples from ovirt python sdk on githab to create it ,in general it works prety well. But on a specific machine (so far) it cannot delete the live snapshot Ovirt is 4.3.10 and the guest is a windows 10 pc. Windows 10 guest has 2 disks attached both on different fc domains one on an ssd emc and the other on an hdd emc. Both disks are prealocated. Hi there, in the past we already observed that live merge operations may take some time. Currently another of those operations is running on one of our VMs on a CentOS 7/qemu 2.3 node. Storage is (async - yeah I know about potential data loss) NFS over 10GBit network. The operation is running for 50 minutes now with an average throughput of 5MByte/sec. OMG. Got this message one day after we upgraded to 3.5.2. We hit the bug and I opened BZ1227693. Before that we were on 3.5.1 and everything worked fine. Dear Allon, We only upgraded the engine and the vdsm on the hypervisors the OS itself stayed the same (Fedora 20), with 3.5.0 Live merge worked, with 3.5.2.1 not. What have you upgraded? The engine? The hypervisors? [ovirt-users] Live Merge vanished after upgrade to 3.5.2.1
Dear all, In our environment the “Live Merge” capability is gone after the upgrade to ovirt 3.5.2.1 It was working before and we had our backup relying in this. Any idea what happened ? Hm could it be you mix up live snapshot and live merge? Live snapshot works since 3.4.3 quite will. Live merge however is still unsupported as I think it requires some quite new stuff from libvirt. It will eventually work on EL7 [1]. Hi Martijn I am running up-to-date EL7 hosts and was also disappointed to find Live Merge was not functional (yet). As I understand it the live merge feature depends on some quite new features in libvirt and qemu which are only available at the moment in the Fedora virt-preview repo. More information at this link http://www.ovirt.org/Features/Live_Merge. As to be expected libvirt and qemu packages provided in EL6 and EL7 will lag a bit behind upstream for good reasons such as ensuring things are well tested and proven reliable. I am sure Red Hat are very keen to get this much overdue feature into their RHEV product so I don't expect the wait for updated EL packages will be too long. Hello, The first thing the 3.5 release notes talk about is Live Merge of snapshots and I've been dying to try that out. Problem: I think my environment is completely up to date now, but the "Delete" link on VM snapshots remains greyed out when the VM is running. Going via "Storage" -> Domain name -> "Disk Snapshots", clicking "Remove" is possible (UX inconsistency), but it stops with "Error while executing action: Cannot remove Disk Snapshot. At least one of the VMs is not down." What is needed, besides the following, to make live merge work? - oVirt Engine Version: 3.5.0.1-1.el6 - Data Center Compatibility Version: 3.5 - Host OS: RHEL - 6 - 6.el6.centos.12.2 - KVM Version: 0.12.1.2 - 2.415.el6_5.7 - Libvirt Version: libvirt-0.10.2-46.el6_6.1 - VDSM version: vdsm-4.16.7-1.gitdb83943.el6 - Live Snapsnot Support: Active VM has been restarted to make sure it's running on the latest qemu-kvm.
