Re: [xwiki-users] Xwiki copyright

2009-09-09 Thread Rune Hylleberg
First and foremost I'm no legal advisor, so you will have to clear this with
someone who is.

XWiki is released under a LGPL, so I believe you are allowed to write and
license you own modules, script, etc. anyway you want to.
But if you use adoptions of the existing code you have to release it under the
same license, here the LGPG.
How it actually works with configuration files, I don't know. Are they
considered a part of the licensed code or not?
I do believe you are allowed to set up your own version of XWiki and sell it
(as in charging money), but you still have to include the original license and
all the source code.

Here are some easy to understand description of LGPL from Wikipedia

The LGPL places copyleft restrictions on the program itself but does not apply
these restrictions to other software that merely links with the program. There
are, however, certain other restrictions on this software.
The LGPL is primarily used for software libraries, although it is also used by
some stand-alone applications, most notably Mozilla and OpenOffice.org.
Version 3 of the LGPL is constructed by applying a GPL linking exception to
version 3 of the GNU General Public License (GPL).

And

The main difference between the GPL and the LGPL is that the latter can be
linked to (in the case of a library, 'used by') a non-(L)GPLed program, and
regardless of whether it is free software or proprietary software.[1] This
non-(L)GPLed program can then be distributed under any chosen terms if it is
not a derivative work. If it is a derivative work, then the terms must allow
modification for the customer's own use and reverse engineering for debugging
such modifications. Whether a work that uses an LGPL program is a derivative
work or not is a legal issue. A standalone executable that dynamically links to
a library is generally accepted as not being a derivative work. It would be
considered a work that uses the library and paragraph 5 of the LGPL applies.

Thanks Sergiu,

I means: add modules, create new templates, adaptation of existing scripts,
add new tables in the databasefor creating a functional environment that
I may sell it.

Is it possible with XWiki?

Thanks in advance.

 Does this mean it wasn't or will not be fixed in 1.9.x?  It lists fix

It means it has been fixed in 1.8.2 and 1.9M2 so yes it should be ok

Can you try to clear your browser's cache ? Can you install firebug

Hi all,

I’ve installed a XWiki farm (milestone 2) in a Trifalk environment.

Re: [xwiki-users] About the open office server

2009-09-09 Thread Julien Hervouet
Hello,

I've downloaded the last version of open office last week and I've
installed it on the same server than the wiki.

I have the admin privileges on this server.

I've choose the Externally managed (local) option through the
modification of the *xwiki.properties *file.
Then On the server I have type the command :

soffice -headless -accept=socket,host=127.0.0.1,port=8100;urp;
-nofirststartwizard

Then I've restarted Tomcat and I've gone back to the xwiki
administration panel and selected connect and everything goes well.

You have the configuration informations on this page :

It's a bit complex to explain but it's a pb of mixing content in 1.0
and 2.0 syntax.

Basically do this and it'll work:

{{include document=Macros.Video/}}

{{velocity}}{{html wiki=true}}
#video(http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xr04b_xwiki-round-the-world;)
{{/html}}{{/velocity}}

Note the wiki=true part which is important.

Of course the best is to convert the Macros.Video page in 2.0 syntax.

  This escape character seems to be added automatically by xwiki.

  Any idea about how to avoid this behavior?

  It's a bit complex to explain but it's a pb of mixing content in 1.0 and
 2.0
  syntax.

  Basically do this and it'll work:

  {{include document=Macros.Video/}}

  {{velocity}}{{html wiki=true}}
  #video(http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xr04b_xwiki-round-the-world;)
  {{/html}}{{/velocity}}

  Note the wiki=true part which is important.

  Of course the best is to convert the Macros.Video page in 2.0 syntax.

  The video macro you mention is a velocity macro written for the 1.0

  Thus in syntax 2.0 you need to wrap it in the html macro.

  {{velocity}}{{html}}
  #video()
  {{/html}}{{/velocity}}

Hi Chaudier,

I tried it and you're right. It seems to be a bug. A workaround I found is to
edit it changing the Syntax to version 1 and back to version 2 again. Then it
works correctly, at least for the small snippets of text I used.

Greetings,

Betreff: [xwiki-users] Issue with the Import an Office documentfunctionality

Hello,

I try to import an Office (word 2003 document) with a Ç character (ALT 128).
The result into the wiki page is: Ccedil;.
The result is the same in UTF-8 or in ISO-8859-1.

Is this due to a configuration issue or a bug?

Thank's in advance for your answer.

Hi Francisco,
Just take the normal version and install it on your server as the instructions
at http://code.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Applications/OfficeImporterApplication
stipulate. You do need access to the server where xwiki is running.

Actually XWIKI-3641 wasn't fixing anything on the 1.9 branch because
of some missing JS var.
It's now fixed, thanks for the report.

Hi Vincent,

thank you very much for you suggestion, I have tried it, but I'm afraid
the sandbox would be not enough for me. I want test the whole xwiki
engine incl. user/permission administation, skins, multilanguage etc.
etc...

Furthermore if the first test passes, I will use it as test/prototype
platform for my future xwiki platform, where I will prepare spaces/page
structure, texts, layout etc. The wiki content will be about a doctor
famous in Russia.

Thank you,
Roman
