You can also take a look at zepl.com.
We prodive provide a way to perioadically sync notebook from s3 and you can
share it as read only.

Have you tried to use console in rootLogger in log4j configuration?
It should look like a bit like this:

log4j.rootLogger=DEBUG,console,file
log4j.appender.console=org.apache.log4j.ConsoleAppender
log4j.appender.file=org.apache.log4j.RollingFileAppender
