[Valgrind-users] Valgrind Installation Problem

2012-05-23 Thread Erinc Arikan
I am trying to install vagring on a virtualbox debian lenny instance, at
the make step, when I run:

sudo make

operation gets interrupted with the following error message:

mkdir -p ../.in_place; \
for f in vgpreload_core-amd64-linux.so ; do \
  rm -f ../.in_place/$f; \
  ln -f -s ../coregrind/$f ../.in_place; \
done
ln: creating symbolic link `../.in_place/vgpreload_core-amd64-linux.so':

make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/earikan/projects/valgrind-3.7.0'
make: *** [all] Error 2

I am running as root, yet I receive operation not permitted error, what
else can I do to fix the issue?

As long as you do not really need the bleeding edge development
version, you can also install the valgrind package of your debian
lenny. It is at the 3.7.0 release. Might get you around these hassles.

Thanks for the hint, worked like a charm, but I still think this might be
something worth addressing.

[Valgrind-users] x86-64bit

2012-05-23 Thread 王
 Hello everyone.

When I use valgrind-3.6.1 on x86-64bit-linux, I got the bug report as
follows,does valgrind not support x86-64bit?

==29953== Memcheck, a memory error detector

==29953== Copyright (C) 2002-2010, and GNU GPL'd, by Julian Seward et al.

==29953== Using Valgrind-3.6.1 and LibVEX; rerun with -h for copyright info

==29953== Command: ls

==29953==

valgrind: Fatal error at startup: a function redirection

valgrind: which is mandatory for this platform-tool combination

valgrind: cannot be set up. Details of the redirection are:

valgrind:

valgrind: A must-be-redirected function

valgrind: whose name matches the pattern: strlen

valgrind: in an object with soname matching: ld-linux-x86-64.so.2

valgrind: was not found whilst processing

valgrind: symbols from the object with soname: ld-linux-x86-64.so.2

valgrind:

valgrind: Possible fixes: (1, short term): install glibc's debuginfo

valgrind: package on this machine. (2, longer term): ask the packagers

valgrind: for your Linux distribution to please in future ship a non-

valgrind: stripped ld.so (or whatever the dynamic linker .so is called)

valgrind: that exports the above-named function using the standard

valgrind: calling conventions for this platform. The package you need

valgrind: to install for fix (1) is called

valgrind:

valgrind:On Debian, Ubuntu: libc6-dbg

valgrind:On SuSE, openSuSE, Fedora, RHEL: glibc-debuginfo

valgrind:

valgrind: Cannot continue -- exiting now. Sorry.

Re: [Valgrind-users] x86-64bit

2012-05-23 Thread Oliver Schneider
Hi,

the possible fixes (that worked for me every time) are mentioned at the
bottom of the output:

valgrind: Possible fixes: (1, short term): install glibc's debuginfo
valgrind: package on this machine. (2, longer term): ask the packagers
valgrind: for your Linux distribution to please in future ship a non-
valgrind: stripped ld.so (or whatever the dynamic linker .so is called)
valgrind: that exports the above-named function using the standard
valgrind: calling conventions for this platform. The package you need
valgrind: to install for fix (1) is called
 valgrind:
 valgrind:On Debian, Ubuntu: libc6-dbg
valgrind:On SuSE, openSuSE, Fedora, RHEL: glibc-debuginfo

If you don't have either one of the mentioned, make sure to include the
output of:

  uname -a
  lsb_release -a

so people can try to help you :)
