vpopmail-4.9.10, OpenLDAP, Qmailadmin, and FreeBSD

2001-04-17 Thread Manip

I got qmailadmin 0.42 working finally from /usr/ports (FreeBSD 4.2 with
cvsup'ed ports)

Attached is the Makefile that I used (my prefix is /usr/local, edit if
yours
 is different)

 My setup is vpopmail-4.9.8-1 + OpenLDAP 1.1.2.11_1 + Courier IMAP 1.3.7 on
FreeBSD 4.2
Now my qmailadmin problems are solved.
However, I am still going to do the project I described below, something
like vqadmin, but in perl, and much easier to install/configure.
Hope this might be useful to anyone..

However, the hardquota code part is still broken and coredumps! :(

Sounds like a minor code error in the ldap module. I don't

Honesly, I am not too familiar with the code in vpopmail. Besides my
 scarce
knowledge of C, I don't think I can accomplish it. I wish I could have
 been
of more help, I wouldn't have minded contributing support to this
 wonderful
   GPL project.

There is one thing I can do though. I noticed Qmailadmin doesn't
compile
 at
all with the Vpopmail+OpenLDAP combination (even after adding -lldap
and -llber to the Makfile authlibs tags or whatever). Since I have
good
knowledge of perl, I can write a simple cgi with html templates, that
 would
authenticate from custom made .htaccess and htpasswd files or directly
 from
vchkpw (more work). Then, the postmaster of the domain can add/delete
 users
(the perl code will just be simple direct access to the shell and to
the
   vpopmail bins, i.e. ~vpopmail/bin/vadddomain $FORM{'adddomain'} ,
   ~vpopmail/bin/vdeldomain $FORM{'deldomain'}, ~vpopmail/bin/vadduser
$FORM{'newuser'}\@$FORM{'domain'} - and the doman could be a select
 drop
down list in the html template). Something simple and quick, just to
 fill in
the gap until we could use qmailadmin with vpopmail+ldap
I also had trouble getting Courier IMAP to compile with authvchkpw and
 LDAP
(even after putting the -lldap and -llber in the authvchkpw_LDADD
 field)..

   Suggestions are welcome,
   --manip

Sounds like you are on a great track. Please write the script and send
  it
in. We can add it to the contrib directory of vpopmail. Your script
  could
be useful to many sites. Plus they can use it as a starting point for
  thier
perl programmers to build on. Please also write a README.yourprogramname
file that has 1,2,3 style steps to install it on a clean system :)
  That would rock!

I we can fix the configure scripts to correctly set the external ldap
libraries to compile vpopmail+LDAP. Then check a qmailadmin build.
  Hopefully
  I'll get a chance soon.

The other thing you might think about is LDAP. You might want to review
the choice if you plan on having 10K or more email addresses.

NEW qmail-smtpd-auth patch v. 0.30

2001-04-17 Thread Krzysztof Dabrowski

Hello.

I'm proud to announce a new version of qmail-smtpd-auth patch. We have
merged our effors with
Eric M. Johnston so now there is again only one qmail-smtpd-auth patch.
We have also set up a mailing list, which is available on
http://list.elysium.pl/mailman/listinfo/smtpauth .
Subscribe there is you want to discuss any qmail-smtpd-auth related matters.
Also notice that from now on, i will answer support question ONLY on the
maling list.
All questions sent to my normal address will be ignored (except when they
are f.e. bug fixes and other important things).

The patch now uses djb's string library so i supose that it'll be easier to
accept for some of you.

Changes include:

- codebase switch. From now on have merged efforts with Eric M. Johnston
[EMAIL PROTECTED] so now there are no more 2 separate auth patches but
just one.
- arguments to qmail-smtpd have changed! See README.auth for further info.
- the code is djbized right now
- TCPREMOTEINFO is set if sender is properly authenticated.

I would also like to invite qmail-ldap, vpopmail , vmailmgr and other qmail
addons/modification to share their success stories with us (on the mailing
list preferably) so other people can learn from them.

Also if you have a modified version of this patch to suit a specific need
but does not fit into the main distrio, then i will gladly host it on my site.

Finally the URL for qmail-smtpd-auth homepage is:
http://members.elysium.pl/brush/qmail-smtpd-auth/

Load Balancing questions...

does this about cover it?

The chances increase with your number of users. Unfortunately file

sqwebmail is the most efficent web client i've seen in terms of overall
system throughput.

 thx for any pointers

I highly suggest going with mysql instead of cdb files. There are is no
file locking done on the mysql module except during add/del of a

Sqwebmail will first look at a sqwebmail-password file in the users
Maildir directory. You won't be able to log in if that file doesn't
exist and contain "TABPASSWORD"

We're doing almost exactly the same thing.

 /home/vpopmail/domains/ /home/vpopmail/etc/ { open-smtp, tcp.smtp,
 tcp.smtp.cdb } /var/qmail/users/ { assign, cdb } /var/qmail/control {
 evertyhign except me }

Well, that would be a complete list. I would wager to say that it is
TOO complete. Files like tcp.smtp.cdb and several files in
/var/qmail/control and /var/qmail/users are read for every single smtp
connection and/or every single delivery. I elected to keep local copies
of each to decrease NFS traffic.

The only problems we've had have been with munging of the .dir_control
file. I discussed this with Ken and he stated that that is a very
common problem with cdb load-balanced sites. He highly recommended
using MySQL auth for load-balanced setups and I am in the process of
converting ours now. My research indicates that it will make things a
lot easier, as it eliminates all possibility of files being munged by
NFS. If your site is busy enough to warrant load-balancing, I submit
that using MySQL as your auth system will make your life much easier in
the future.

also, has anyone had any experience load balancing qmailadmin? any
issues with cdb files getting corrupt ( chances of simultaneous access

I haven't had any problems with load-balancing qmailadmin. Works great.

sqwebmail has been rather amazing. No problems with load-balancing...

Is it correct solution ? I wondering...

The idea is that the .current_size file keeps counting up untill
the user reaches thier quota. At that point it calls the recalc_quota

This minimizes the number of times vpopmail counts all the emails.

Perhaps a better name could be used for the .current_size file.

I would have to paste exactally what is being shown, I know that by default
the senders actual ip is sent, but this is also showing the full local
hostname / email address of the sender. I could see how
it would be annoying to start getting mail for your business to your
home local isp. In my case, I dont even use my local isp mail, so if
someone responded to something like that, I wouldnt even get the mail.
Could make for people thinking I'm ignoring them.

Re: How to create message (filter) rule?

2001-04-17 Thread Le Van Chi

Dear Johan Almqvist,

Thank you for your guide.
However I still cannot get mail filters worked. My configuration include
qmail (/var/qmail), vpopmail (/home/vpopmail), sqwebmail, maildrop
(/usr/local/bin/maildrop)

my /var/qmail/rc :
exec env - PATH="/var/qmail/bin:$PATH" \
qmail-start '|dot-forward .forward | /usr/local/bin/maildrop ./Maildir/'

my /usr/local/share/sqwebmail/maildirfilterconfig :
MAILDIRFILTER=../.mailfilter
MAILDIR=./Maildir

When I try to create a mail filter in sqwebmail, the filter rule is created
successfully. I can see sqwebmail creating a .mailfilter file in
/home/vpopmail/domains/fsps.com/a1/.

The only thing is that when I sent an email to test the rule, It does not
seem to have any effect.

Do I miss any configuration step?

Thanks,

 Dear All,
I am using vpopmail + courier-imap server and sqwebmail.
I wonder if I can create filter rules for incoming messages.
 Thanks in advance,

RTFM. This is described in great detail in the sqwebmail docs. The
relevant file in the source tree is maildir/README.maildirfilter.html

If you have problems, be sure to check the logs...
