Unable to receive mail

2001-09-28 Thread Brian Murphy

Hi,

I've done a few qmail installs before, but this is my first time trying
vpopmail. I'm sure this question has been addressed before but I couldn't
find it in the mailing list archives or in any of the documentation so
please accept my apologies.

The problem is that I find myself unable to send mail to domains I've added
in vpopmail.

Messing around with qmail-inject, I can send mail to users with system
accounts, but I get a bounce back message with the error Sorry, no mailbox
here by that name. (#5.1.1) when I try to send to users I've added via
vpopmail.

What's odd is, when I send mail using the vpopbull command, it's delivered
properly and I can pop it as expected.

There must be something trivial that I forgot to do. I can gladly post any
config / log file output that would prove helpful in solving this issue.

Thanks in advance,

   -Brian Murphy

vpopmail 5.0 bug/change.

2001-09-28 Thread Brad Dameron

Alright. I upgraded from vpopmail 4.9.9 to 5.0.

Issue:

In the old vpopmail you could use just the username in the .qmail-default
for the catchall account. If you do that now it creates a mail looping issue
and you must change it to the full path. Considering I have a little over
400 virtuals on this mail server now and most use the username this is not
good.

What do you mean username? Is it an /etc/passwd user, or virtual user? If
it was virtual, do you mean that you could use:

|/home/vpopmail/bin/vdelivermail '' test

for the catchall [EMAIL PROTECTED]? Qmailadmin uses the path to the users'
directory, like this:

|/home/vpopmail/bin/vdelivermail '' /home/vpopmail/domains/test.com/test

And I've never had a problem with that.

Upon installing 5.0pre5, the setgid() errors go away, but virtual domains
still do not work, as noted by the persistant No user found errors.

Changing compilation options makes no difference here. Forward and reverse
DNS are both in working order for each domain, and --enable-ip-alias-domains
is compiled in.

Any suggestions?

No but it would if you delete the domain sometime later and it _is_ listed
twice unless you're checking for _EVERY_ existence of 'domain' in rctphosts or
morercpthosts.

But for your construct you don't need an API-call you can simply do

'echo domain /var/qmail/control/rcpthosts killall -HUP qmail-send'
or
'echo domain /var/qmail/control/rcpthosts svc -h qmail'

The lesser only if you're running qmail via supervise scripts.
Next thing would be to add a line to 'smtproutes' too.

Nevertheless this kind of backup-MX ain't very usefull, if primary MX is down
servers should hold mails in queue for several days. if them use the backup-MX
and this backup-MX also only streches the queue a bit the win is only a few
second/minutes (or even let it be hours) of time, unless you don't set
queuetime on that backup-MX to a very high value (what I would not recommend).

An other theory for your scenario would be a gateway that connects a private
net with the internet. If that gateway shall receive mails via port 25 but not
store them locally but forward them to a local computer running vpopmail.
In that case you vadddomain() on that local computer and need to tell the
gateway to rcpthosts that domain too, but that's quite more simple done 'by
hand' than via API-call :-)
Easiest would be a

'scp /var/qmail/control/rcpthosts gateway:/var/qmail/control'

:-)

IP-based domains problem

2001-09-28 Thread Vsevolod Melnikov

Hello,

I have a problem with IP-based domains and Vpopmail 4.9.10. I made a search
through this mail-list archive at http://www.mail-archive.com/vchkpw%40inter7.com/ ,
but I could not find a solution. It seems to me that some people have already
had such a problem but I could not find solution anyway.

Well, I'll try to describe my installation.

I said

./configure --enable-hardquota=52428800 --enable-default-domain=aist.ru
--enable-ip-alias-domains=y --enable-qmaildir=/usr/local/qmail --disable-tcprules-prog

and compiled everything as it was said in the INSTALL file.

Everything works fine now. The only exception is ip-alias-domains.

I've set aliases via vipmap.
./vipmap -p
212.24.32.76 metapoisk.ru
212.24.32.73 aist.ru

I should also say that reverse DNS is configured this way too. But it does not
seem to be important for Vpopmail anymore.

Ok, now let's try to fetch mail using fetchmail.
My .fetchmail file loook the following way:
poll 212.24.32.76 proto pop3 user seva password my_password

I type fetchmail -f .fetchmail and see the message:
fetchmail: Authorization failure on [EMAIL PROTECTED]
fetchmail: Query status=3 (AUTHFAIL)

In /var/log/maillog I see the following line:
Sep 28 17:24:24 ns1 vpopmail[10848]: vchkpw: password fail [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Look here, it tried to fetch mail from default domain aist.ru and not from
metapoisk.ru!

So, I am completely confused now. Could anybody help me? Thank you in advance!

Regards,
Vsevolod.

Well, I couldnt get POP to SMTP authentication to work. I still havent

Having read the manual forwards and backwards, and not figuring this out, I
decided to try to do the SMTP Auth instructions that were posted last week.
I downloaded the new qmail-smtpd.c file, did make setup check (which
compiles and installs I believe) and made my run file look like this...

 #!/bin/sh
 QMAILDUID=`id -u qmaild`
 NOFILESGID=`id -g qmaild`

 /home/vpopmail/bin/vchkpw /bin/true 21

Im still not sure if qmail-scanner is doing anything (no virus notifications
sent to me yet), but mail is going through.

Sooo... heres where I am at. Im obviously still not good enough at this to
figure out the problem myself (or it wouldnt be a problem) so I need to
know. What do I need to do to enable Roaming users support (Pop to SMTP)
O SMTP-AUTH on the server so that my users can use the outbound server.
Personally, I would prefer the first.

Here's how I did it:

1. Apply the smtp-auth patch found here to qmail:
http://members.elysium.pl/brush/qmail-smtpd-auth/

2. If you use qmail-scanner, apply the qmail-queue patch to qmail and
install the scanner.

3. Add the qmail-smtp (qmaild) user to the vchkpw group:

usermod -G vchkpw qmaild

4. Here's my supervise script for qmail-smtp that does smtp-auth,
qmail-scanner, and rblsmtp:

#!/bin/sh

QMAILQUEUE=/var/qmail/bin/qmail-scanner-queue.pl
QMAILDUID=`id -u qmaild`
NOFILESGID=`id -g qmaild`
MAXSMTPD=`cat /var/qmail/control/concurrencyincoming`
export QMAILQUEUE

exec /usr/local/bin/tcpserver -l 0 -R -H \
  -x /home/vpopmail/etc/tcp.smtp.cdb \
  -c$MAXSMTPD -u$QMAILDUID -g$NOFILESGID 0 smtp\
 /usr/local/bin/rblsmtpd -t 5 -b \
  -r blackholes.mail-abuse.org \
  -r 'relays.mail-abuse.org:Open relay problem - see
URL:http://www.mail-abuse.org/cgi-bin/nph-rss?%IP%'\
/var/qmail/bin/qmail-smtpd \
 /home/vpopmail/bin/vchkpw \

Hope this helps.

- From what I've gathered while my vpopmail hacking, the update API
call
will remove all duplicate lines on its own anyway.

'echo domain /var/qmail/control/rcpthosts killall -HUP
qmail-send'
 or
'echo domain /var/qmail/control/rcpthosts svc -h qmail'
The lesser only if you're running qmail via supervise scripts.
Next thing would be to add a line to 'smtproutes' too.

Not necessarily. It's quite sufficient for qmail to have proper MX
records in the DNS.

Nevertheless this kind of backup-MX ain't very usefull, if primary
MX is down servers should hold mails in queue for several days. if
them use the backup-MX and this backup-MX also only streches the
queue a bit the win is only a few second/minutes (or even let it be
hours) of time, unless you don't set queuetime on that backup-MX to
a very high value (what I would not recommend).

I think it should speed up mail delivery after an outage on the
primary as most mail is already on the secondary. Tell qmail to
iterate over its queue and your mails get delivered to the right
place. I for myself know pretty well that mails don't get lost that
easily if a mailserver is down for a few hours, but customers won't
ever understand that for some reason...

In that case you vadddomain() on that local computer and need to
tell the gateway to rcpthosts that domain too, but that's quite
more simple done 'by hand' than via API-call :-)
 Easiest would be a

I certainly don't want to do any offline mailservers ;-).

And here's the latest:

It's still a development version. Also, my QA_ADMIN patch (for

vpopmail 5.0: bug in vsetuserquota?

2001-09-28 Thread Pontus Hanserkers

I compiled 5.0 with the following options:

--enable-roaming-users=y \
--enable-relay-clear-minutes=180 \
--enable-clear-passwd=y \
--enable-logging=v \
--enable-log-name=vpopmail \
--enable-hardquota=10485760

giving me output:

test3:iP.epj/R8vXN.:1:0:test3:/home/vpopmail/domains/testdomain.com/test3:10485760:test

The cleartext password is missing on account test1 :-(

Hey guys, I have 4
email accounts and I want them all to go to the same mailbox, so I don't have to
setup my mail client to connect to 4 different accounts. I'm not quite
sure how to do this, can somebody give me a hand? I have qmail setup with
vpopmail (authenticating via a MySQL database) on a linux box.
Thanks...
