[vdr] Newbee questions about HDTV VDR system with TT-budget S2-3200.
Hi, I would like to get a HDTV VDR system started. I have the following hardware to play with: gigabyte m55plus s3g main board (nVidia GeForce 6100 / nForce 430) with Athlon 64 3500+, 1GB RAM GeForce 9500GT card with 1GB RAM 2 TT-budget S2-3200 DVB S2 cards I have installed OpenSuse 11.1 on it, which comes with vdr 1.6.0, the xine 0.8.2 plugin and dvb-1.1.0_CVS20080331-1.48. Is there a getting started with HDTV VDR FAQ somewhere? My first 3 questions questions are * Will a new VDR version be released today? The latest I could find is 1.7.7 (3 weeks old). * Where do I find the right DVB driver? * How do I configure LIRC, so it works with the S3-3200 and the remote control included with it? Thanks in advance for any hints, Carsten. ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr

You could also remove all unwanted channels from your list and set DVB/Update channels to names and PIDs. Then the EPG scan would only switch through the desired transponders. Well, that sounds like an excellent idea, I'll have a go. On our cable network here there are loads on commercial channels that we can't see nor will we ever want them. So I rather get rid of those errors from syslog if possible. I'll try your suggestion. Re: [vdr] xineplayer uncontrolable...
You can work around this and continue to use regular mplayer if vdr runs inside X session. I just used to start background xterm instance in my xinitrc and invoke vdr in it. Hi, In ubuntu you have to run grep /var/log/syslog and grep /var/log/messages Another way to monitor what happening in your system is to open separate new terminal and run tail -f /var/log/syslog , and in the previuos terminal start vdr with /etc/init.d/vdr restart.
