First I suggest you not to upgrade to 6 until MP5.
Yes you have to upgrade to 5.x first (no patches needed) and then upgrade to
6. And you have to run the nbpushdata command after the upgrade.

BUT before do the final upgrade open a case to veritas support and ask to
check the netbackup database. It is crucial that the database is error free.
They will send you a binary to run and they will check the output.

2006-09-04 Thread WEAVER, Simon

Well it can cause issues yes :-)
I do have to perform backups via IP, because we are not allowed to use DNS
(secure reasons), so its ok for a small number, but if you have no name

So long as all of your routes are working properly and your DNS is
working properly, this won't cause you any grief. We've got multiple
networks in place here and it's working fine.

If you're using BMR, then you have to be a bit more concerned but that's
the only part of NetBackup that I'm aware that cares about what subnet
you're on.

I try to retain emails, my apologies on this. I thought there was a post
saying MP3 was ok, but I found your post (dated July) that tells people to
stay away from MP3 :-)

Your post mentions MP4 should be better, but guess we need to wait and see.

Its just a shame 6.0 came out with so many problems - maybe it was too
rushed!

Simon,

Please follow the discussions on the list before asking again. MP3 is
*NOT* stable out of the box. There are post-MP3 engineering patches
available that fix many problems, but many critical issues remain.
Engineering is working hard on the issues and we're hoping that MP4 is
production-ready.

I've heard that MP4 is targetted for October 15. I have no idea about
MP5 nor if it will be mandatory for a production environment or just
contain minor patch fixes.

Hi all,

We have one separated backup net at our site which is

I am not sure how this will work with our master and

works on the server side?

I have no idea about
MP5 nor if it will be mandatory for a production environment or just
contain minor patch fixes.

.../Ed

First I suggest you not to upgrade to 6 until MP5.
Yes you have to upgrade to 5.x first (no patches needed) and then upgrade to
6. And you have to run the nbpushdata command after the upgrade.

BUT before do the final upgrade open a case to veritas support and ask to
check the netbackup database. It is crucial that the database is error free.
They will send you a binary to run and they will check the output.

Could look at
this.

http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/276941.htm

Also, make sure that TRACKER.exe is not loading up on the client
(assuming its Windows NT/2000/2003). this can be seen as a computer icon near
the clock and if you right click you will get options to exit, start and stop
netbackup service.

Do you have any extra features enabled like FLASH or advance
client properties enabled?

Check the link above, see if that helps
ok

Hi all,

Was wondering if anyone is has seen errors similar to this:

write error on media id JB0338, drive index 1, EOM returned when writing
media header

I've had a look on support.veritas.com and have had no luck. About to open a
support call but was wondering if any of you experts out there may know what
is going on.

It seems that when a backup tries to span to the second tape it fails with
the aforementioned error. Seems to really only occur on this 1 backup that
is about 500+ Gb which spans about two LTO2 tapes.

Thanks in advance.

C.
