We are in the middle of upgrading our NBU backup environment from version 6.5.3
to 6.5.5. The master and media server upgrades were fine. We are having
issues with more than a handful of Windows clients. The clients used to finish
without issue, they are now all ending in error code 1 with the following:

2/24/2010 6:37:52 PM - begin writing
2/24/2010 6:44:16 PM - Warning bpbrm(pid=2064) from client xxx-: WRN -
can't open object: Shadow Copy Components:\System Service\Windows Management
Instrumentation\WMI (BEDS 0xE0009421: No component files present on the
snapshot.)
2/24/2010 6:44:18 PM - Warning bpbrm(pid=2064) from client xxx-: WRN -
can't open object: Shadow Copy Components:\System Service\Event Logs\Event Logs
(BEDS 0xE0009421: No component files present on the snapshot.)
2/24/2010 7:33:57 PM - end writing; write time: 00:56:05
the requested operation was partially successful(1)

They are all failing with the exact same missing Shadow Copy Components files.
Searching the Syamntec forums didn’t turn up anything, hoping someone else has
seen it.

Thanks.

2010-02-26 Thread NBU

Hi Forum,

Any changes to the policy not get reflected. I am on 6.5.5 (Solaris).
But if i create a new policy with same details, it is happening without any
problem.

Any suggestions/ideas appreciated.

Re: [Veritas-bu] NetBackup 7.0 VMware and Vault Problem

2010-02-26 Thread Shawn Plummer
On Feb 22, 2010, at 10:52 AM, Shawn Plummer wrote:

 Hello all,

I am new to the list but it was suggested to me as a place to ask about some
odd behavior we are seeing on our recent Netbackup 7.0 upgraded system with
 VMWare backups and Vault.

The basic issue is that we have a VMWare backups that backup ok, but when
vault goes to duplicate them it seems to hang on the duplication of image
job. They run for hours with no increase in progress until I finally manually
 cancel them.

The only thing that seems odd about them is that they have kind of long Names
with spaces (I am using the new VM Name option rather than host name option
for selecting them in the policies)

The names of the images in the Job Details window are similar to
 Oracle%20Collaboration%20Suite%2010.1.2_1266535125

Another curious thing I have seen is it showed Current Kilobytes written” as
2814727788026040 of an estimated Kilobytes of 14157877 on one of our jobs.

If anyone has seen this or knows of any issues I would appreciate any
 pointers.

I have been doing some more research on this problem and have discovered that
none of our VM images with spaces in their names are duplicating.

In our vault jobs I see a lot of this sort of thing:

File List:
banapp2_1266795268
Illiad01%20-%20InterLibrary%20Loan%20System_1266795366

So a word of warning to anyone that goes to 7 and uses VMnames to select your
VMWare backups, Vault apparently cannot duplicate those VMs that uses spaces in
their names. I am in the process of changing the name of one of the VMs that
previously failed to duplicate to something without spaces and will re run the
duplication and see if that resolves it. I expect it to as our VM images
without spaces seem to duplicate just fine. This also would not be a problem if
you stick with using the hostname in your policies I presume.

[Veritas-bu] Parsing through bpimagelist

2010-02-26 Thread Trudi Eisenhour
Does anyone know of something that will help parse through a bpimagelist
to help me see Client, Kilobytes, and Backup Time in easier way? I
received the output of the nbulog via text and it has so many policies
and clients that it will take me a week to go through it.

Got any magic tools in your back pocket?

I have a script for that. I'm in mtgs now but will look for it and send it off

Also you can search bpimagelist script chapa and you may find it on someone

Sorry for the cryptic response.

I usually use perl because I can run that on Windows as well as Unix
easily.

See http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/193085.htm for field

2010-02-26 Thread Rusty.Major
If you're on Windows, you can install Cygwin and then use grep/awk if you
want to go that route, but the scripts others have provided are probably
better. If this is something you need on a regular basis, you might
consider a third party reporting tool (Aptare, VBR, etc.).

NOM, which I think is free, may provide this info, and in NBU 7.0 there is
OpsCenter which has some more reporting than was available previously.
