Re: [Veritas-bu] Enterprise Backup software and hardware

2010-05-28 Thread WALLEBROEK Bart
We are currently in the process of looking out for new robots as well.
Currently we are a SUN/StorageTek shop with 10 robots (PowderHorn - L1400 -
L700 - L180).

We have been looking at other vendors as well and you might take a look at
Quantum, IBM and Spectra-Logic as these 3 have interesting offers and features.

Hello,
You can extract tar binary from the NB_CLT tar file and replace the
original.
I do not know if it will solve your problem. Maybe the are other binaries
you have to replace and not only tar.

Depends on how much data you are backing up and what your retention
periods and backup window are?
I am a big fan of storagetek libraries and with LTO5 out now you can get
3TB on a single cart.

For you regions you may want to look at puredisk clients or perhaps a
NetApp filer in Manchester with ossv in your regions

[Veritas-bu] stuck ndmp jobs

2010-05-28 Thread Nate Sanders
I have two NDMP drives and both of them are locked by dead NDMP jobs.
I've issued the kill job command via the GUI multiple times and after
two days they have not died. I then tried restarting NBU, no success. I
killed the jobs on the client side (netapp) and still nothing. I then
tried killing the running processes on the backup server, nothing.

How do I forcefully release these drives and clean up the jobs?

Re: [Veritas-bu] Need to backup a server in the extranet.

2010-05-28 Thread Jim VandeVegt
I have this in my 'bag of tricks' under the heading of DMZ client setup:

* Add client to a policy and install the client binaries on the client.
* In the administration GUI expand NetBackup Management, expand Host
Properties, and click on Master Servers. In the RHS pane, right click on the
master server and select Properties. A new window will open.
* In the LHS tree of this new window, select Firewall. In the RHS pane add the
name of the client and its attributes:
Use connect-back: not checked
Ports: bullet on Use reserved ports (this setting may not matter)
Daemon connection port: bullet on VNETD only.
* In the LHS tree select Client Attributes. In the RHS pane select or add the
client. General tab attributes:
No connect-back: checked.
*The network firewall has to allow connections on ports 13724 and 13782
originating from the media server to the client in the DMZ.
Now that I read it, and some of the replies so far, I wonder if both ports are
actually needed from trusted (media server) to untrusted (client), but at least
this process restricts the connections to being in the desired direction,
rather than untrusted to trusted.
