Re: [Veritas-bu] Need Information on Limiting the bandwidth via SLP

2012-05-29 Thread Hemant Gambhir

Hi Nic,

Thanks for your reply.

I am already through with this doc, but it is not helping me.

Option 1: I put the limitaion under pd.conf file but that is not working for
me, as it was set to
OPTDUP_BANDWIDTH = 3200

But the bandwidth was still not under control it was utilizing the maximum
available to transfer the data over GWAN.

Option 2: I made OPTDUP_BANDWIDTH = 0 and edited the following file:
Install Path..\Program Files\VERITAS\pdde\agent.cfg

# A bandwidth limit, in KiB/sec.
# Value 0 means no limit.
# This setting is used for replication of non-PDDO and PDDO data selections.
# Default value is 0.
# @validate [0-9]+
bandwidthlimit=3200

this also didn't worked properly for me.

So need a proper solution, it may be that I might be missing something, but not
sure what.

Warm Regards
Hemant Gambhir

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Need Information on Limiting the bandwidth via SLP

Hi,

I need one information on the SLP but befre that let me explain my setup.

I've one Master server and under that there are 6 Media Servers. - Total 7
servers

Server Names: Server 1 to Server 6 (All Media Servers)

Server 1 Media server is taking backup of all the clients in the dedupe pool
and I've configured SLP and duplication jobs are running on Server 2 it is
happening over WAN to the dedupe pool which is configured on all the media
servers.

I want to limit my bandwidth which is used at the time of duplication.

For e.g. I've 100Mbps of link I want to limit the duplication jobs to use
only 30 Mbps and at any cost duplication jobs should not exceed this limit.

Can anyone please assist me on the same.

If the scenario is not very clear please let me know what further information
is required.

Regards

Hemant Gambhir

[Veritas-bu] Start pbx AFTER nfs or other OS services?

2012-05-29 Thread Lightner, Jeff
Basic question: What key services do I need to start for the operating system
(UNIX/Linux) on master BEFORE starting PBX then the rest of NetBackup?

This morning I had to do a reboot of my NetBackup 7.1 master server which runs
on RHEL 6.

Backups kicked off and were successfully running to our Quantum DXi dedupe unit
and to our Quantum i6000 tape library. Also Vaulting kicked off later and was
successfully reading from our Data Domain dedupe unit. I was also able to
traverse the NFS mount used for the storage unit from command line on the
master.

However, it appeared that any backup that was using the storage unit (basic
disk) from the master for the data domain was failing with status 213 Storage
Unit not Available.

I reasoned it had to do with the boot and stopped NetBackup then stopped
Veritas PBX then restarted the latter then the former. After that I was able
to access the storage unit with no problem.

The fact it works after a manual bounce of NetBackup but not after the initial
reboot of the entire server (which started NetBackup) leads me to believe there
is a startup order issue. Since the storage units rely on NFS mounts and
these were clearly accessible is evidenced by the fact Vaulting was reading
them and command line could traverse I’m thinking this might be the issue. It
appears that PBX starts before NFS but the rest NetBackup starts after NFS.
The oddity is that the DXi also uses nfs for its storage unit and it was being
backed up to successfully before and after the bounce.
