Situation: Running NBU5.1 mp6 under Solaris10. Using Adminconsole on
windows workstation to do restores.

I keep getting these type error 59's. I can do restores of clients to
original file locations with success. If I try to restore
any file to same server or different server and to a different location,
I get the cannot put rename file on host name.

It complains about bpcd exiting from workstation where admin console is
running from etc.. Either way, if it is a successful (original location)

restore or not it still complains with error 59.

example of alternate location restore:

8/22/2007 3:37:26 PM - begin Restore
8/22/2007 3:37:27 PM - restoring image jsnbumedia_1187205790
8/22/2007 3:37:29 PM - Error bpbrm(pid=15020) bpcd on as400rpt exited
with status 59: access to the client was not allowed
8/22/2007 3:37:29 PM - Error bpbrm(pid=15020) cannot put rename file on
jsnbumedia
8/22/2007 3:37:30 PM - Error bpbrm(pid=15020) client restore EXIT STATUS
59: access to the client was not allowed

All servers can ping each other. I have all servers static in hosts. All
servers referenced in bp.conf etc..

Anyone have any ideas? I'm running out..:o(~

Hello All,

Don't know if this has been discussed already. I've gone back 10 pages
with no success.

Running 6.0MP4 on a W2K3 master server
My client is a W2K3 R2 server.

Ive set up my bpstart_notify.bat file with the following line:
net use M: \\server\sharname password /USER:domain name\user name

Then set up my policy to reflect M:\ in the backup selection.
This is a NetApp share...

Getting status 71.
Ive looked at the bpbkar log in the bin directory of my client, but I'm
not getting anything from it.

Has anyone run into this problem before?

Does it fail at the beginning of the restore or the middle?

Are client and server version the same? I had a known issue similar
to this trying to restore from a 6.0 MP4 Master to a 5.1 MP6 client. In
the end Veritas was little help and I just upgraded to 6.0 MP4 clients.

Double check (as usual) DNS Lookup (We're not accidentally writing to
production are we? I'd be 100% sure with HOST files just to rule this
out.) How about reverse DNS, for Master, Media and Client?! Does the
database location exist? I.E. if the database pointing to G:\SG1 does
G:\SG1 Exist? Yadda yadda, check box for overwrite etc...

The test exchange server is named identically to the server in

The netbackup master server was restored from a catalog backup, and the

The databases have been marked that can be overwritten.

Any thoughts?

Hey Steve.

Have you tuned the OS in any way?
Specifically with Sol8/9 there were many /etc/system entries required
for optimal (functional?) performance when the system is under load.
I understand this has gone away (??) in Sol 10, but I don't know if
there are new/other parameters that require tweaking.

Is there anything at all that you've tuned on the boxes or are you
running a plain vanilla install?

I'm looking at testing out Sol 10 on some T series servers, and due to
the inability to sufficiently load the boxes in my lab (number of
backup jobs + raw throughput) I don't want to have to find out in
production that bpsched crashes/hangs and jobs don't run because of lack
of shmem, or vmd pukes due to lack of semaphores.

These are just a few issues I found in Sol8 after servers were in
production for months.everything worked fine till one fine day when
our load gradually, and unexpectedly crossed some random boundary.

It could well be. My concern is that LTO2 should be at least 200GB and
400GB Compressed. so if you are getting nothing like that, its either
the tape, drive, drive configuration issue perhaps.

LTO3 offers 400GB / 800GB Compressed - LTO1 Is 100GB / 200GB compressed.

Can you definetely confirm its an LTO2 tape (sorry if it sounds silly to
ask, but it seems to be alot of wasted space if its LTO2).

I'm having a case of the Mondays. On Friday i upgraded to MP4
from 6.0MP3. The MP4 upgrade seems to have gone well.

A backup this weekend only used 125GB of tape and then required
a 2nd tape. I should get closer to 200GB of data on an LTO2 tape. The
tape positioned itself to file 1.

I'm wondering, why didn't more data get written to the LTO2
tape?
