[Veritas-bu] Logs stripping

2010-06-08 Thread Matthews, Gary (GSD UK Production Services business)
Hi,

We're just putting in a new NBU 7 installation and going OK so far J But
we have a prerequisite that we cannot send any IP addresses or server
names in any info we have to send to support - so was wondering if any
one has any scripts that will strip these out of the log files? We're
running on Solaris. TIA

[Veritas-bu] Library

2009-11-03 Thread Matthews, Gary (GSD UK Production Services business)
Hi,
Just after a few opinions. I've been asked to put in a new SAN with NBU
from scratch. The library's a fairly hefty box, a sun SL3000. It's only
got 2 fibre drives at the moment for testing but will have several more
going live. I was wondering what would be the best way to go
connectivity wise - all going through 1 switch, 2 switches on 1 fabric
or a switch on both fabrics?

TIA

Gary

[Veritas-bu] SQL Backup checking

2009-09-16 Thread Matthews, Gary (GSD UK Production Services business)
Hi,
This is probably very simple but not having done it before I thought I'd
ask the experts :-) We've got a windows infrastructure running nbu 6.
All we backup is flat files, with a mix of network, VSS and clariion
scripted snapshots. Our SQL servers run their own backups to backup
drives and then we back them off. Up to know it's just been a scheduled
NBU job but the SQL databases have grown and now the backups overlap.
Rather than just move the backup later, thought I'd ask if there's
something cleverer we can do to check if the SQL backups have finished?
Something ina bpstart script ?

TIA

[Veritas-bu] Licensing Question

2009-03-24 Thread Matthews, Gary (GSD UK Production Services business)
Hi ,

I'm hoping someone can verify a license question. We're setting up an
environment with Vmware - several esx machines , 2 w2k media/vcb servers
and a windows master cluster ( 6.5.3) Symantec have said we need an
enterprise license per esx machine, and I'm just wondering why! If it's
vcb doing the work, and we're communicating just through 1 VC server I
would have thought at mose 3, one per vcb and maybe 1 for the VC . How
are you guys licensing it?

TIA

[Veritas-bu] Shared drive problem

2008-11-13 Thread Matthews, Gary (GSD UK Production Services business)
Hi,

Hoping someone can help me. We've got a new system recently put in, its
been fine until recently - had to reboot the media servers and have had
a problem since then. We've got an AIX master ( no tapes) a W2K3 Media
( also a VCB server) and an AIX media server , all with NBU 6.5.2a
installed. After rebooting the first media server to run gets a tape
drive no problem and subsequent jobs run ok. On the other media server
the first job sits there with a status of 'waiting for shared tape drive
scan to stop'

Any ideas?

TIA

Just getting to grips with vmware/vcb/nbu (6.5.2) and setting up

requirement on one of the backups to exclude the D: drive on a

that way, so thought ok, create a policy with specific drives rather
than all local, but there doesn't seem to be that option - does
anyone
know how I can exclude a prticular drive on a vmware client/vcb

My catalog backups take approx 3 hours. You may need to let it run longer than

[Veritas-bu] Non Cluster failover

2008-07-28 Thread Matthews, Gary (GSD UK Production Services business)
Hi, As part of my first forays into NBU , as well as trying to get VCB
working :-) I'm also trying to set up failover. Trouble is for this
system, our day-to-day support team have specified they do not want a
clustered master. Not being that experienced in NBU or AIX it's a nice
big learning curve for me :-) We'll be running AIX and NBU 6.5 so I
was thinking maybe have /usr/openv as it's own LUN on the primary
master and a /usr/openv LUN on the secondary . Install on the primary
and install on the secondary . Then stop the services on the secondary ,
and set up a mirror from the primary, overwriting the secondary ( we'll
be using DS8K's metro-mirroring) then in a dr, remount the secondary
. Would this work and what configs changes would be required eg to get
emmserver working etc The set up will be two sites, AIX with a media
server in both sites , and possibly a w2k3 media server in both sites
too , master at one and failover master at the other

Re: [Veritas-bu] VCB - Fail to get VM server Info

2008-07-25 Thread Matthews, Gary (GSD UK Production Services business)
Hi Jonathan , what version of NBU were you using ? According to the
docs on what's new in 6.5.2 it says :-

Connect using port number

Unless the port number was changed on the VMware server, no port

specification is required. If the Connect using port number box is
checked,

deselect it. VMware Consolidated Backup software determines the port.

I got a similar error and had to call Symantec for support. Are you
looking for a VM Host or the Virtual Center? If you are pointing to the
Virtual Center you have to change the port under Credentials --
Virtuaql Machine Servers to port 443 to connect. The default 902 is
only for communication with virtual hosts. It's kind of silly, but I
couldn't find this documented anywhere either.
