[Veritas-bu] NetBackup training
We are currently using NBU 6.5 for Windows and I am trying to pass my admin duties on to a new hire. I have not seen any training dates for NBU 6.5 for Windows for the Baltimore/D.C. area. Has anyone had NBU 7.0 for Windows training? Is it similar enough to the 6.5 training that we could send the new guy to 7.0 and he still get the training he needs to run 6.5? I have emailed Symantec about upgrading to 7.0, but have not heard back and I just wanted to follow through on this possible option. Re: [Veritas-bu] NetBackup training
I've been working through the web-based NBU 7.0 training (to fill in the blanks before my cert exam). There's not much in there that doesn't also apply to 6.5. By the time a new admin will get to the advanced features of 7.0, you'll be there anyway. BTW, unless you really don't like your new hire, don't subject him to the web-based self-study Symantec course. That course needs to be yanked from the curriculum - it's absolutely horrible. It consists of an English as a second language speaker reading into a teleprompter with slides you can't read unless you've got a 22' monitor at 1024x768 resolution. .../Ed On Mon, Nov 15, 2010 at 9:03 AM, McDonald II, James F. james.f.mcdonald...@saic.com wrote: We are currently using NBU 6.5 for Windows and I am trying to pass my admin duties on to a new hire. Re: [Veritas-bu] NetBackup training
Im struggling really. I passed my NetBackup 6.5 Exam, but that was based purely on working experience. I could not do any training or work away from the job, due to commitments. Books I used was the manuals as well. No real choice like the Microsoft type of exams. Would be nice if I could have web training well in fact ANY training I could do at home would be good. I am used to training manuals and hands on, but dont have the time to go on a course. Re: [Veritas-bu] NetBackup training
Our previous NBU admin left in March and we were still on NBU 5.1MP6 at the time. In July I was given the chance to attend class for NBU 7.0 and apply this to the 6.5 migration I was working on. By Aug I had successfully completed a 5.1-6.5.6 upgrade. I highly recommend the classes, especially in-person. The 7.0 class will still translate very well to 6.5, as I use my 7.0 books weekly in our existing 6.5.6 environment. [Veritas-bu] NetBackup Training
We were planning to have some onsite training from Symantec, but they managed to price themselves right out of the market. Does anyone here have some references for good onsite NetBackup training? This would be for NetBackup 6.5, mixed Windows/Linux environment, predominantly Windows however. All the usual suspects are present: SAN, DFS, SQL Server, Oracle, misc other things. [Veritas-bu] Netbackup training setup
Hello, I've got a couple of Ultra 60 sparcs and was thinking of purchasing something like: Sun StorEdge L280 Tape Drive DLT7000 or Sun StorEdge L1000 DLT Tape Library w/ 2 Drives http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/validateUser.do?target=Systems/L1000/L1000 from Ebay obviously. Software I would use would be Netbackup 6.5.2. Would such a setup be usable, strictly for personal training purposes ? Just to get more familiar with running the Netbackup's command line commands/tools/daemons. Any advice about this would be greatly appreciated. Once I get this set up, I would do a write up about it, to share my experience. Re: [Veritas-bu] Netbackup training setup
May I recommend something along the lines of and LTO-1 or an LTO-2 tape library so the students can experiment with performance tuning. Unlike here in most cases...we have to test in a production environment. :-) Thank You, Dennis Peacock EBCA Acxiom Corporation 501-342-6232 (office) -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of bantoi Sent: Friday, November 07, 2008 5:12 AM To: VERITAS-BU@mailman.eng.auburn.edu Subject: [Veritas-bu] Netbackup training setup Hello, I've got a couple of Ultra 60 sparcs and was thinking of purchasing something like: Sun StorEdge L280 Tape Drive DLT7000 or Sun StorEdge L1000 DLT Tape Library w/ 2 Drives http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/validateUser.do?target=Systems/L100 0/L1000 from Ebay obviously.
