[Veritas-bu] Upgrade to 7.5 - Any known issues

2012-04-04 Thread Kevin OConnor
Morning All,

We're currently running 7.0.1 on four master servers, two AIX and two Windows
2008 R2 with an array of Windows, AIX, VMWare servers (windows 2003 x32/windows
2008 x64/AIX 5.1/6.1) being backed up to VTL.
We use Exchange, Oracle, DB2, SQL, SAP and EV agents.

We're thinking of upgrading to 7.5, only released I know, but we usually wait
for the first Maintenance Pack so it has time to bed in.

Just wondering if anyone has upgraded to 7.5 and if there have been any issues
or gotchas, especially with relation to the kind of environment I mention above
?

I've had a look around but couldn't find any great detail and our test server
upgraded without issue but I haven't had the chance to test our db agents yet.

Any help would be great.

Thanks
Kevin

2012-04-04 Thread Robin Small
We upgraded a few weeks ago..

The only issue I've seen so far (that I remember) has been that the policies
are a little more twitchy about host names (fully qualified vs short).

I've had some (Oracle agents) where the client in the policy was
client.domain.tld, and the installed config hostname was just client.
It took me a little while to hunt that one down, but after changing things to
make them consistent, it flushed out the problems.

I want to think I also had to rearchitect my EV policies to split them up, but
that might have been because I upgraded to EV9.

Hth,
~ Robin

Re: [Veritas-bu] Upgrade to 7.5 - Any known issues

2012-04-04 Thread smpt
I had done 3 upgrades.

Problems:

1) The catalog transformation was not finish and SLP's could not run.
Fixed with an EEB, which is now available for download.

2) I had problems with java GUI with one of my installations. If the
schedule has override storage unit an SLP, I cannot open it for changes.
Will be fixed with EEB

3) Something has changed to the SLP. Read the technote
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH184142. It does not matter if your SLPs was
created before 7.5 or they are new. I had to delete all reading media
servers (first recommendation) AND to configure the media servers to the
storage server (second option) to have my SLPs run correctly.

4) Sometimes, not always, when I'm trying to change an SLP I get the
request was made by an invalid server . And I'm running java from the
master server.

5) We are running incremental that some times are 0 bytes (no changes)
and then duplicate them to another location. Before 7.5 all duplications
finish with 0. Now all 0 byte images are fail with error 190

Don't know what else I will find. What for the 1st patch.

Stefanos
