Correct - Each ESXi host needs the Enterprise Client License based on the 2
socket format described below.

Re: [Veritas-bu] License needed for VMware Backups

2017-08-15 Thread Mikhail Nikitin
Hi Simon,
As others correctly pointed out, if you are using the traditional
licensing model, you need one Enterprise Client Tier 2 for each
hypervisor host and one App/DB pack Tier 2 Windows/Linux/SolX64 for
each hypervisor host if you need to protect applications running in
VMs.
If you are using the capacity licensing model, you don't need extra
licenses, provided you have your VM front-end TB capacity covered by
the existing license set (although this is not enforced by NBU).
If you are running Windows/Linux and predominantly VMs, you may benefit
from the new licensing model of NBU 8.0 called NetBackup Enterprise
Virtual Client.

2017-08-15 Thread Daniel Goh
Hi Simon,

Yes you just need the Netbackup Enterprise Client License Tier 2 to backup the
VMs on the ESXi servers.
Additionally if you have any App or DB level backups the NBU App/DB pack would
have to be added on.

Regards,
Daniel

Re: [Veritas-bu] License needed for VMware Backups

2017-08-15 Thread Lightner, Jeffrey
A couple of years ago our sales person told us for each Hypervisor we need
"Enterprise Client" licenses. Our Hypervisors are MS Hyper-V rather than
VMWare but I'd assume the same was true for VMWare hypervisors.

Symantec sold off Veritas including NetBackup last year and the licensing
renewal was a bit muddier this last go round vbut someone else here did it so I
don't have details.

My recollection is that 2 socket machines were tier 1and more than 2 sockets
was tier 2.

Hi All
Quick question (to anyone alive on this list).
Got full NBU environment which is great.

We do VMware backups, which is fine.

We need to add new ESX Hosts and therefore, need to license them.

I am struggling with Veritas to simply get a quote. These hosts are 2 CPU Linux
based OS machines, which will run a mix on Win/Linux VM Guests.

I thought the name of the license was "Veritas Enterprise Client License" -
Which you bought to license each ESX Host you have.

Is this correct, or is it known as something else?
Thanks, S.
