I joined Black Pixel in July to help lead their product efforts and we have
been hard at work, redoubling our efforts since. For the past many months we
have been working on a newly released major update to Kaleidoscope while we
also worked to finally bring SVN 1.7 support to Versions.

Today we announced on Twitter that we are offering a public beta for Versions
1.2, which will introduce SVN 1.7 support. We are inviting folks who are
interested to email us so that we can provide them a build in the next couple
days. We are very excited about this release.

Once the build is ready, I'll be sure that we share information about it
here, as well. We truly appreciate all of our Versions customers and we're
happy to be turning this corner.

I'll be in touch with beta information in the next couple days.

BP is just assuming they've all already moved on to more current, more

Anyone from the BP team care to shed some light on what's afoot? Given the
traffic here over the past 18 months regarding SVN 1.7 support, I'm
guessing there are a few interested parties...

Re: Name Conflict

Well it doesn't match Versions implementation. But the name might be the cause
of confusion.

In the end versions might be a bit too global a word for something like this
anyway. And apples implementation most likely isn't a subversion client. So I'm
not sure what the legal department has to say about it. If anything (like apple
vs the beatles)

First come first serve so it should belong to versions app.

Any way to do it? On other clients there is a checkbox on each item on
the commit window or you can create multiple working file sets.

 Thanks,

Re: How to commit only some files

2011-01-10 Thread Jorde Vorstenbosch
You virtually want a temporary ignore, that resets after the commit. With
perhaps the option I said.

 Cue,

That would indeed be nicer, in addition it should then have a remember
last files checked option or the likes. So that you don't have to do that
every time you want to commit. Perhaps something to submit for wanted
 features?

Jorde, that is currently my solution but it is an arduous process. I
usually work with working copies that have a large count of files, and quite
often find myself checking-in files whilst excluding others temporarily. But
with the Ignore option it is tremendously simple to overlook those changes
 and forget they exist.

Checkboxes in the commit dialog serves a vast purpose for occasions such
 as this.

Re: Merge

2011-01-04 Thread Jorde Vorstenbosch
Looking at how many people work at sofa I think they're actually up to
something, something with their current software. They're most likely not
telling us due to 'apple-like' tactics where they don't want to tell us XYZ and
then not deliver Z. I personally don't need merge and don't use kaleidoscope, I
can see where you guys are coming from though. And that's it's a desirable
feature.

There has been a of serious updates hence me thinking there's something big in
the works, something that'll make you stop thinking about anything else for the
coming months.

In the end it's up to sofa to deliver and I see that you guys are getting a bit
impatient. I reckon we should wait for a reply from sofa and see what they have
to say.

Unfortunately, if you look at Sofa's other product Kaleidoscope, it is
also nicely designed, and also suffers from a surreptitiously missing
feature: the ability to merge differences. That's right, it's a diff
 tool that only displays differences.

Sofa seems to make software that's pretty, but dumb.

Cornerstone is the only way to go.

I've been waiting for Versions and K-Scope to improve since betas, but
there have been no substantial technical updates.

Maybe instead of additional UI enhancements (like the ones that just
came out), adding this much requested feature would be better.
I'd even upgrade to a new version for this feature, with no
hesitation. I love Versions, but it's just not the most complete tool
 out there.
 I hope they fix this.

 Hi Dirk,

I'm sorry, I have a lot of trouble with your suggested solution and
 your argumentation.
If I wanted to create scripts to enhance my workflow I'd probably not
want to use a GUI in the first place.
And wouldn't you say that the interface is already too cluttered if
comparisons can be initiated from so many places in the app? Who
 knows...
I don't know cocoa but my guess is that adding an extra menu open
 with shouldn't be that hard.
Or adding a menu when you hold down the remote/local changes button
showing you a list of editors to select from.
I find it odd that thus far I'm the only one that has requested this
feature/reported this bug but I guess there aren't a lot of people
merging since it's not supported from within Versions.
I understand that managing expectations is hard and that development
 in general is even harder.
Though IMO I've always gotten the feeling that 1.1 would be a
 significant upgrade.
I love the fact that I can organize my bookmarks in folders and the
new timeline view is a big improvement.
But the fact that you still can't switch between show all and
changed view without losing the way you had expanded folders is
 really annoying.
Maybe that's just me but most of the issues that are important
regarding workflow have not yet been resolved which is really too bad
if your waiting a year for an update.

Again this is starting to look way too much like a rant which is not
why I'm here. Apologies for that, maybe grabbing a beer together would
be a better forum for this discussion :-)

 Kindest regards,

 Marijn

 Hi Marijn,

With the many places in the app that let you open a comparison, just
adding this one 'simple feature' is very hard to do without making
 Versions' interface more complicated.

Secondly, so far you're the only person who requested this feature. We
prioritize the features we implement by which ones – we believe – have
 the biggest impact.

This one didn't make the cut primarily for the first reason — we don't
want to clutter Versions' interface and destroy the best thing about
Versions, but also for the second.

I think the real solution to this particular feature request is
scriptability, maybe similar to how some apps let you add your own
scripts to a menu somewhere in the app (complete with keyboard
shortcuts). That's a major undertaking, and therefore will have to be
weighed against other 'big features', but it's a lot more appealing to
me than adding an option to temporarily switch diffing apps for every
 comparison everywhere in the app.

I hope this sheds some light on why this 'one simple issue' hasn't
 been 'resolved' in 1.1.

 Cheers,

To me it seems pretty straightforward that one would love to merge

The workflow to support that right now is non-existent at best.

Damn, I hate the fact that I've become such a negative nancy when it

It's not as much the support for Kaleidoscope itself but more for

Anyway, I'm abandoning SVN in favor of Git. This is only a concern for
me on the project I'm about to finish. I merely wanted to point out
the problem set this creates for people that have to merge changes now
