Yep - I put the full path to ssh into the svn/config file and it works
now! Thanks.

Hi Bob,

Welcome to the group.

Your hunch is correct, there's a known issue with Versions resolving
paths through the environment for anything listed in the .subversion/
config file. If you put the full path to the ssh executable (/usr/bin/
ssh) in there it should work as expected.

Let me know if that works :)

Error in child process: exec of 'ssh' failed: No such file or directory

2010-01-02 Thread Bob Denny
I just bought Versions, and I am having problems with svn+ssh. I have
it all set up for command line access: I defined a tunnel for svn 'a2'
with the custom port (-p), my username (-l) on the remote server, and
my keyfile (-i), and it's working:

$ svn list svn+a2://svn.dc3.com/home/rbdenny/svn/astro/voevent
branches/
tags/
trunk/
Killed by signal 15. <-- I know what this is, a bug in svn 1.5/1.6
that I wrestled with on Windows!

Note the 'svn+a2' - the 'a2' is the tunnel name I set up in .svn/
config.

If I cut and paste the URL 'svn+a2://svn.dc3.com/home/rbdenny/svn/
astro/voevent' into the Versions New Repository Bookmark window,
leaving Username and Password blank, it fails with the error message
'Error in child process: exec of 'ssh' failed: No such file or
directory'.

What's going on? It's almost like Versions can't find the ssh
executable. I am a relative newcomer, so please bear with me.

The direct download link still seems to be functional:

Well, at least for the moment... maybe it'll be removed now that I've
posted it... ;-)

By the way, I do think it's annoying when older versions of an
application aren't available on the vendor's site. After all, I think we
all have had the experience that the new version causes more problems
than the previous version.

I understand that re-installing an old version might clash with the
prefs already saved by a newer version -- but sometimes, having to
delete the prefs can be the lesser evil.

Kind regards,

Re: Error in child process: exec of 'ssh' failed: No such file or directory

2008-12-16 Thread Tim

I was having similar issue and worked out the solution, which involved
extending Dirk's solution.

Dirk talks about giving full path to ssh but, in the same line of the
config file, you might also have to give full path to your key file.

Example:

ssh = $SVN_SSH /usr/bin/ssh -i /Users/[your home]/.ssh/id_dsa

Re: Error in child process: exec of 'ssh' failed: No such file or directory

2008-11-06 Thread Tim Gray

Ahh, thanks. This actually wasn't my problem, but it did give me the
clue to fix it. I had the following lines in my ~/.MacOSX/
environment.plist file:
SVN_SSH
ssh -i /Users/tgray/.ssh/id_dsa
This was needed for a previous program, I don't really recall which.
Adding '/usr/bin/' in front of the 'ssh' fixed my problem. Thanks!

Re: Error in child process: exec of 'ssh' failed: No such file or directory

2008-11-06 Thread Dirk Stoop

Hi guys,

There is a known bug in Versions, where if you have defined a custom
schema in your ~/.subversion/config, it does not properly import your
shell environment. So even if you simply uncomment the following line
in ~/.subversion/config:

# ssh = $SVN_SSH ssh

Versions will no longer be able to find ssh, if instead you write the
line like this:

ssh = $SVN_SSH /usr/bin/ssh

everything will work just fine.

So, while we work through our to-do list until this bug is fixed –it's
alas a bit more complicated than it looks–, providing the full path to
command line tools you've defined in the config file should resolve
the problem for now..

Hoping this help,
- Dirk
