[VFB] QUOTE FOR THE DAY

2009-05-18 Thread Jimmy D. Moore
On Bass: This is one of the American freshwater fishes; it is surpassed by
none in boldness of biting, in fierce and violent resistance when hooked.

We all got one back - there was a drop-out. Bob should have kept
them and fished with them.

Good newsMisako and i were signed up for the new Wasatch Fly Tying
Tools/Jay Vise Pro Team while were in Washington State doing the FFF Washington
State Fly Fishing Fair (Council Conclave) and i have some news to report bout
the Jay Vise.
First, as you know, the PERFECT vise has yet to be made. For instance, not
even the Law Vise can do what my Dingo vise can do. Which is, as an example,
rotate horizontally as well as vertically.so far the Dingo is the ONLY
vise which has the horizontally rotaing head asembly. That is the Jaws,
(independantly), rotate in a 360 degree circle, on a flat plane as well as an
up and down plane. But the Dingo has other issues which also put it in the
Not-so-perfect catagory as far as i'm concerned.little things like the
fact that it doesn't hold hooks worth a crap, and the fact that the jaws don't
open wide enough for them to hold anything over bout a size 3/0 hook.
Well, i think we will very soon have, FINALLY THE Perfect Vise available for
fly tyers. Mr. Jay Smidt of South Africa, who is the inventor and manufacture
of the Jay Vise, (imported, and distributed exclusively in the U.S. to fly
shops, by Wasatch Fly Tying Tool Company) will be sending me the very first
horizontally rotating (the Jaws themselves independantly) Jay Vise. Misako and
i have been tying exclusively on the Jay Vise at shows for 4/5 years now and i
have been working with Mr. Smidt on perfecting the Jawsand he has
already got them to where they will hold (EXTREMELY TIGHT.immoveable) hooks
up to 20/0, with a Midge set that will do the same with as small as size 32.
The vise allows for MAXIMUM hand room, holds hooks of EVERY size EXTREMELY
well, will soon rotate in both directions, and even comes with a pedastal base
that has a hole in the front of it that allows for C-clamp connection to the
table so you have the best of both worlds in one set-up, C-clamp included. Jay
has been sending me the newsest upgrades to the Jaws over time and each has
gotten better than the last. He has also sent me the new up grade to the crank
(rotary handle) which is smoother than the original. The base pedastal also
comes with many drilled holes for your tools, brass cups (inserted), for hooks
and beads, and a center tray for more of the same. And a longer than standard
stem can also be ordered for those (like me) who prefere to work higher up.
I've got it and i LOVE it.
I'm not being paid (other than free vises and tools) for this.but for my
money, the Jay vise is now THE unbeatable vise on the planet. It simply has no
flaws. By the way, it also comes with a metal bar that can be DEAD Centered
so as to allow for ABSOLUTELY DEAD TRUE Rotary adjustment no matter what the
size of the hook(s). A MUST for commercial tyers who change hook size
constantly, yet want to keep things DEAD TRUE consistantly. The vise also comes
in a variety of colors..nice touch. And just wait'll you see the stem
tighning screw, and other embelishments. Good news all the way around.
mark.

[VFB] Re: FW: for the list......DVD Rope-dub

2009-05-18 Thread DonO
I spent about 5 hours today with the editor doing what I hope is the final
editing of the main tying portion. It really flows now, with great continuity
and lots of photos inserted. I must say I did a great job photographing the
flies in macro. LOL I decided I wanted to re-shoot one portion and do an
additional portion that I want to show more variety in, but these should be
easy. But when there's 24 tying sequences, that's not too bad.
I'm going to have one of my fly-tying buddy view the DVD one time to get
his impressions and critiques. I have not given him rope-dub lessons, so this
will be his introduction and tutorial. He'll catch what I haven't caught, i.e.
things beginners need to know and see.
The program for editing videos is fascinating, but with more capabilities,
I found myself wanting more things- Can we do this? ...or this? ...and this?.
It has been a learning experience, and if this video does well, I intend to do
7 more. But it's not cheap, and if I find it pirated and downloalable for free
off the internet in two weeks...well, there won't even be a No.2 Rope-dub then.
I'm spending quite a bit to have it done professionally, and I can't afford to
not get my expenses recouped. I'm paying extra for anti-pirating software but
I am told that the geeks can get past anything. I'll also have the DVD's
pre-printed, signed, and serial-numbered, and portions of the DVD watermarked
and stuff like that, but if someone wants to pirate it to save $39.95, I guess
I can't stop them if they have the capability.
