Re: [VFB] Black Hackle
When you look at Denny's natural black feathers, you will note that there are bits of green and red and even purples apparent as you look at them in the sunshine. IN nature, colors are never true according to AK Best. I prefer natural black feathers, but, when I dye them myself, I use the hair dye but I also put a bit of green or red in the bath. You can start by first dying them a light green or you can mix the colors. Sometimes you want a bit of a purple black hue (such as starling feathers have naturally) and even overdying white feather that you've done purple and then black, while OK, for me don't produce the wonderful hue that starlings have. I'd be interested in the experience of others. Joyce On Tue, Jan 19, 2010 at 6:39 AM, Alan Di Somma phxflyt...@cox.net wrote: The one person that would give us the right answer is Joyce. [VFB] QUOTE FOR THE DAY
I'll be using some of my fly fishing poems stuff for the next few days. Hope you enjoy them. JIMMY D FELLOWSHIP OF THE LONG ROD I have my casting rods, my spinning rods and fly rods galore. My fly rods I keep in a standing rack while others are propped up behind my workshop door. I have flies for this and flies for that. I even have flies that will catch a yellow cat. Some of my flies are big and some are quite Small, but when my friends see them, they're usually appalled. Why can't we give our flies a simple name, like Green Fly, or Blue Fly or Moth and Flame. The Purists shake their heads with a snort and express their snobbishness by naming theirs The Beetle of Le Tort. Jimmy D. Moore © April 7. 2006 º * JIMMY D. I get it from the cake decorating department in the JoAnnes or Michael's or whatever craft store you have. Be very careful..it is permanent. You can go online and see the frosting colorants and the amounts to use. I did a bunch of purple goose biots and used about 1/16 tsp to make a cup of purple dye.
