[VFB] Rropedubbedd Swabb
Hi Buggs, tell DonO that I finally decided on the paddern. I'll do a Wet Stonefly. Found the idea in a recent flymag. Changed the abdomen from dubbing an d-rib to ropadubb. The Interesting detail is the thorax and wing. Dubbed, hackled and than a woodduck feather folded over and covered and enforced with some strands of floss, which also mimiks the back.Rene -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VFB Mail group. I now habitually take a bigger clump of hair than I need for a tail becasue it takes less time to pick out a few extra hairs than it does to take too few, add a few more, and then restack the whole bunch. Re: [VFB] Re: Tom Nixon Flies
Hi Jack; Thanks for sharing, I was the one asking about Nixon patterns. I was curious how to use ready made spinner bait skirts, I used to have great success in bait casting/spinning with fire tiger patterns and was curious how to take advantage of fire tiger ready made skirts. Now I know. The fly is slightly negative buoyant - it sinks very slowly with all that motion. Cast it near structure or under docks, and strip only enough to maintain contact with the fly. Bass will inhale the fly and turn away. Strip-strike when you feel the weight on the line. I also fish it on intermediate sinking lines near jetties as an octopus imitation in the salt. This requires a more active retrieve. jack Wes Wada wrote: Hi Jack, Thanks for the information and pics. Can you describe how you typically fish this fly for bass? Lost out here in trout country. [VFB] Rope-dub swap- 3 more days to close ranks.
MeddelandeHere's the list of rope-dub swappers and their flies to date. If I hear from Jimi, it will be 22 swappers. If not, I can take a replacement, or cut the number back to 21, or take an extra set for a donation to a worthy cause. The swap will close on the 20th. Nick? Are you in? What fly are you tying? Don't need a 2-hr. cased caddis this time, just a simple fishable fly that shows a good application for the rope dub. Need some peacock applications, too, if anyone is up to it. [VFB] trip report
Today I finally got to do a little fly fishing for trout. Sunny day 62 F, and lots of wind. And seven or eight trout were nice enough to grab the Pink Squirrel I was using. I only caught about twenty dead weeds or willow branches. Of course I'm blaming the the windy conditions and not my rusty casting.
