Has anybody tried to tie with one of these??? Are they bright enough?? I like
the full spectrum part of it. Maybe if you had two of these to tie by??? I
think I'll buy one just to see how bright they really are. I know 13watts in
this type bulbs don't put out a whole lot of light, but if the lens is the
right kind/shape etc, and a reflector behind the light bulbs etc, It might just
be a cheap tying light.  Chuck

Hi Tony;

Thanks!

I was curious if you were giving the Walmart Ott/knockoff a try.  The light
Scott was using at Sow Bug was my Ott portable I purchased from Lowes.  Lowes
carries the Ott lights but not the inexpensive light seen at Walmart.

2010-05-04 Thread Rick Zieger
Although fly-fishing for bass has always been popular in parts of the country,
in recent years there's been a resurgence of interest - as evidenced by new
high-tech rods and fly lines, the rise of fly-fishing-only bass tournaments;
and even a film dedicated to chasing largemouths with the long rod.

Just to weigh-in on this light think, I've been tying with a Ott Lite for years
and there the best, I saw them at Tuesday Mornings a couple weeks ago and they
were about half price. Also Hobby Lobby and Michaels has them and every other
week they have coupons. (ie 40% or 50% off one item)

Subject: [VFB] Tying Light Maybe?

Has anybody tried to tie with one of these??? Are they bright enough?? I like
the full spectrum part of it. Maybe if you had two of these to tie by??? I
think I'll buy one just to see how bright they really are. I know 13watts in
this type bulbs don't put out a whole lot of light, but if the lens is the
right kind/shape etc, and a reflector behind the light bulbs etc, It might just
be a cheap tying light. Chuck

Re: [VFB] Tying Light Maybe?????

2010-05-04 Thread Anthony Spezio
You might try this.
Put a sheet of white paper behind the fly right up against the fly to keep from
having a shadow. The camera will then focus in the fly and not the background.
You might even place a light behind the sheet of paper as a back light. then
use the flash in the Micro Mode. I know this is a Micky Mouse way of doing it
but it works for me.
