[VFB] QUOTE FOR THE DAY
I get all the truth I need in the newspaper every morning, and every chance I get I go fishing, or swap stories with fishermen to get the taste of it out of my mouth. Ed Zern º * JIMMY D. Re: [VFB] Shoe Goo - Head Cement
However, it is not clear, as I had expected; rather, it has a 'milky' color. I'm afraid to use it until I know for sure that it will dry crystal clear. Has anyone who has ever tried this had any problems not drying clear?? No, but here's something for you to try. Add some acetone (a few drops at a time), swirl, and see if it clears up. If it gets more cloudy, quit. G If you shake it well before using, it shouldn't hurt the cement as far as drying is concerned, but the xylol won't dry as fast as toluol. (Toluol boils at 230° F. and xylox boils around 280° F.) I think Dave's Flexament may have an alkyl halide (some congener of the methylene chloride series) in it, but that's not readily available to us peons. a. -- Allan Fish Greenwood, IN afi...@sbcglobal.net -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VFB Mail group. Re: [VFB] Why I don't have a lot of faith in Chinese made fishing hooks
Neville: i know that feeling well as we just completed (well, we're still working on it) a remodel of a place we just moved into. It don't help you now, but they do now have a screw extractor kit. Has about 4 extractors of different sizes. Works just like the bigger Ez Out extractors for bolts, only they are smaller. I had to use that kit a TON during the remodel though, so I feel your pain, And to make this fishing related, I bend the barbs on all hooks (or I try to remember to do it anyway) that I tie flies on, and more times than not, if it's a Chinese made hook, just barely mashing down on that barb will often break the hook right at the start of the bend. And I wondered why I was getting such a GREAT deal on those eBay hooks I was buying LOL..Chuck - Original Message - From: Neville Gosling To: vfb-mail@googlegroups.com Sent: Friday, January 13, 2012 1:08 PM Subject: [VFB] Why I don't have a lot of faith in Chinese made fishing hooks Yesterday, I was organizing my storage closet by installing 8 U-shaped gold plated hooks (not fishing hooks) from which to hang power cords, small tools etc., which I purchased my local Home Depot. Each metal U-shaped plated hooks needed two screws (supplied) to affix to the wooden backplate. One screw head broke off leaving the rest of the screw in the wood, necessitating repositioning of the U-shaped hook. Another screw which had a phillips head quickly became a screw with a round hole in making it impossible to screw in or out, necessitating getting out the dremel tool to cut a slot in what was left of the head in order to remove the screw with a regular screwdriver. The quality of the screws was terrible, and a short job became a big job! Neville (Nev) Gosling Greater Vancouver BC Canada No virus found in this message.
