2019-01-19 Thread DonO
Jack,
Thanks for the story- very interesting.

I’ve got some ‘upgrades’ to the basic pattern for you to try. Lots of
variations in Google images, but no rope-dub grub patterns.

Wisconsin is the ‘home’ for this pattern, isn’t it?

Hi Don . . . Count me in too if we have a couple of months as recently posted.

Did a trip to Wisconsin to visit my son and go to Kyle Zempel's trout camp. I
was introduced to the Pink Squirrel at that time and landed a few trout with a
tenkara rod. On returning to Indianapolis I ventured to the local pond with the
Pink Squirrel still attached and decided what the heck let's just toss it in
and see what happens. The fly hit the surface and about a foot under the water
a big, really big sinister silver thing flashed on the fly and immediately
broke me off. I have since tried pink squirrel flies several times on that pond
and to my dismay have never gotten a single bite . . . not even from a
bluegill. 

Howdy All,

I am still in stroke recovery, but able to do more all the time- just need to
keep my energy up.

I found an interesting fly on the internet that would be a good candidate for a
swap. It’s called a Pink Squirrel Nymph. Many of you are aware of it and have
probably fished it.

If you have fished it, a story can be added. Even crawfish like this pattern!

Ye Rooles: (for IOFFers)

1. Role call for who’s still here- swapping or not.

2. List of those interested in swapping this easy and much-liked pattern.

3. Lots of photos on a search of images

4. Broad range of quarry fish

5. Very east tie, easily adaptable to rope-dubbing if you choose

6. Size 16 – 8 all one size or varied, style hook can vary

7. Gray body (your choice of dubbing), pink collar (any material suited for a
collar per the photo archives)

8. Gold or silver bead

9. Any customization in keeping with the basic pattern

10 Number of swappers to dictate size of swap

11. Standard swap rules apply: toe tags, return SASE (some sort of pkg.) or
Cash for return of flies. Recipes not needed unless you did something special.
(Story?)

Any extra flies will be donated to good charity.

Will post a photo of all designs. Google images should pick it up.

All comments welcome. Easy tie, great fly (famous even), lots of variations
with a common theme.

Any VFB swappers left?

Will give it a couple of weeks for distance lurkers to check in. Maybe we’ll
have a good-ol’ days VFB Swap.

Cheers,

DonO

2019-01-19 Thread DonO
Hi Ron, welcome to the swap.

Just turn them in before you leave, as early arrivals are no problem at all.
Just need to settle on the quantity first, or you can just send in 100 in case
Rene gets it that high. lol

Sometimes late arrivals for the deadline hold up a swap for a little, or even
drop-outs needing replacements.

It’s a relaxed, fun thing, so slipped dates are not capital offenses (handled
in lower case court).

This is filling pretty quick.
Does anyone have a cut-off point, how many tiers max?
(The PSQN is a simple pattern, so tying a few extra should do your
arsenal well.)
I’m still working on holding on to a fly rod without being able to
feel it in my hand. /Good side/ of that- cheap fly rods ‘feel’ just
like high dollar ones.  I’m going to make a lanyard to attach the rod
handle butt end to my wrist.

*Tiers:   (as of 1/19 am)*
1.  Rick Zieger
2.  Allan Fish
3.  Neville Gosling
4.  Chuck Alexander (are you still doing WW charity auctions?)
5.  Don Ordes
6.  Renr Zillman
7.  Gary Webb  *1
8.  J Balmer
9.
10.
*1  I did that ‘drinks’ swap (I may have had a helper- hard to
remember details of events). I’ll see if I can pull them out of my
swap collection box, locate your PSQN, post a photo. I tied a Cherry
Fizz, which was a giant red salmon egg with a fuse (for explosive
strikes).
Thanks Gary for the walk down memory lane. (I may be down to a cane
pole while sitting on a lawn chair on a dock, Tenkara-styling it. But
a PSQN would be a good choice then.)
*2. I was thinking a light jig-style hook pattern for deeper water,
too.  (Tenkara approach)
A dark pink or red bead could also serve as the yolk of a hot
pink egg collar.

Howdy All,
I am still in stroke recovery, but able to do more all the time- just
need to keep my energy up.
I found an interesting fly on the internet that would be a good
candidate for a swap.  It’s called a Pink Squirrel Nymph. Many of you
are aware of it and have probably fished it.
If you have fished it, a story can be added.  Even crawfish like this
pattern!
Image result for crawfish took a pink squirrel fly

Ye Rooles: (for IOFFers)
1. Role call for who’s still here- swapping or not.
2. List of those interested in swapping this easy and much-liked pattern.
3. Lots of photos on a search of images
4. Broad range of quarry fish
5. Very east tie, easily adaptable to rope-dubbing if you choose
6. Size 16 – 8 all one size or varied, style hook can vary
7. Gray body (your choice of dubbing), pink collar (any material
suited for a collar per the photo archives)

8. Gold or silver bead
9. Any customization in keeping with the basic pattern
10 Number of swappers to dictate size of swap
11. Standard swap rules apply: toe tags, return SASE (some sort of
pkg.) or Cash for return of flies. Recipes not needed unless you did
something special. (Story?)

Any extra flies will be donated to good charity.
Will post a photo of all designs. Google images should pick it up.
All comments welcome. Easy tie, great fly (famous even), lots of
variations with a common theme.

Any VFB swappers left?
Will give it a couple of weeks for distance lurkers to check in.
Maybe we’ll have a good-ol’ days VFB Swap.

Cheers,
DonO

This is filling pretty quick.
Does anyone have a cut-off point, how many tiers max?
(The PSQN is a simple pattern, so tying a few extra should do your arsenal
well.)
I’m still working on holding on to a fly rod without being able to feel it in
my hand. Good side of that- cheap fly rods ‘feel’ just like high dollar ones.
I’m going to make a lanyard to attach the rod handle butt end to my wrist.

Tiers: (as of 1/19 am)

1. Rick Zieger
2. Allan Fish
3. Neville Gosling
4. Chuck Alexander (are you still doing WW charity auctions?)
5. Don Ordes
6. Renr Zillman
7. Gary Webb *1
8. J Balmer
9.
10.

*1 I did that ‘drinks’ swap (I may have had a helper- hard to remember details
of events). I’ll see if I can pull them out of my swap collection box, locate
your PSQN, post a photo. I tied a Cherry Fizz, which was a giant red salmon
egg with a fuse (for explosive strikes).

Thanks Gary for the walk down memory lane. (I may be down to a cane pole while
sitting on a lawn chair on a dock, Tenkara-styling it. But a PSQN would be a
good choice then.)

*2. I was thinking a light jig-style hook pattern for deeper water, too.
(Tenkara approach)
A dark pink or red bead could also serve as the yolk of a hot pink egg
collar.

Cheers,
DonO

I’m in…
