Re: [VFB] Source for Seal's fur dubbing in the USA?

2020-06-28 Thread Phxflytyer
Pete. Try ‘’ Arizona fly fishing.com’’
You can go on to you tube and type in “‘John Rohmer’’ and you can see how he
ties the Simi Seal Leach. He also sells ‘’Diamond Brady’’ and simi Seal magnum.

[VFB] Source for Seal's fur dubbing in the USA?

2020-06-28 Thread Pete Gramp
Hi, VFB!
Is there a *legit* source for seal's fur dubbing in the USA? Like, not
having to deal with CITES permits or risking run-ins with law enforcement?
For that matter, is it even legal to possess and use seal's fur dubbing in
the USA without a CITES permit or the likes? If not... boy, I am glad the
little I have from Scotland has a CITES permit associated with it!!

Just looking for new colors, as what I have are 2 colors, both dark (jet
black, dark olive nearly dark-brown), and nearly impossible to dye the
orange and cobalt blue I'm desiring... There's a featured pattern in the UK
Flyfishing & Flytying Journal that I'd like to try my hand at, that's why
I'm seeking these colors. Technically I could use sheepswool dubbing as an
alternative, but I was never fond of that stuff, and I don't have that
besides. And the sheen just isn't the same for sheepswool dubbing. I
suppose I could also use pigswool but that is too kinky/curly in my
opinion, and besides, I only have about 0.1g left (flattened out, the size
of a 50p piece, or a little bigger than a US quarter) in off-colorations
for that option.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide for seal's fur sourcing - legit
ones, in the USA,
-Pete

RE: [VFB]

2020-06-28 Thread J Balmer
So very sad to hear, & I deeply regret not making it down there last fall like
I had planned. Tony was one of the people who early on encouraged me to become
more involved in tying, joining this & one other group & even offered up his
seat @ Sowbug to get me to tie. I didn’t accept because I wanted to watch him

The care centers here have been closed since mid-March. The closest we have
been is a drive though on Father’s Day. Dot is good and recognized us, but Tony
is suffering from dementia and barely recognizes Robert, his son. Hoping they
open up the care facilities by mid-July. It is heartbreaking as have not been
able to see him for three plus months!
