Re: [VFB] Re: I'M still kickin'

2023-04-27 Thread 'KP' via VFB Mail
Hi Pete,
Congratulations on the Smurf degree sport.
The Old Farts swap is as you describe it. Bit of this bit of that not sure
about this not sure about that got lots of time to sort it. :-)
Its a single photo posted to the thread Old Fart Swap along with the
recipe. You dont even have to tie a new fly it can be one you use and tied
years ago if you like. Suggested it like this so there are none of the
usual costs and deadlines for flys to be posted out etc. and hopefully get
the list buzzing again. Remember those days?? Probably not if you are an
Old Fart!
Just pick your fly take a photo add the recipe put that on the thread and
bingo jobs done.
Hope that all makes sense Schtroumpf à Lunettes !
Regards
Keith

[VFB] Old Farts Fly Swap.

2023-04-26 Thread 'KP' via VFB Mail
Hello folks,
Thought I would put this on a thread of its own. So the "rules" are:
Tie ONE fly of your choice.
Post a photo on thisa thread of the fly along with the recipe.
Room for as many of you that want to join in.
Age must be OVER 50 (days old!!)
Do all this with no worries about deadlines, post costs, tying hundreds of
flies etc etc.
It can even be a photo of your favourite fly that you tied 20 years ago!!
So far there is
Peggy Brenner
Gary Webb
Rene Zillman
Me
Look foreward to hearing from you and seeing your flies.

Best from Blighty
Keith

2023-04-26 Thread 'KP' via VFB Mail
Hi Peggy,
Sorry to hear about your BIL. Condolences to you and your family. Amazing
when you think you're doing the right thing and it goes wrong.
Good to have you on board for the "swap" though. I see you are still doing
youre demos and courses. Great work.
Gary I look forward to seeing this secret panfish fly. I would love to have
a go at the crappy and sunfish. They seem pretty consistent fly rod sport.
I will put my fly up on here as soon as its done.
So far there is :
Peggy,
Gary,
Rene?
Me.
Plenty of room for all you other old farts out there. ONE fly and post a
pic on here with the recipe. No postage to worry about, no dozens of flies
to tie.
I'll start another thread.

Re: [VFB] Test

2021-01-01 Thread 'KP' via VFB Mail

So if we want to keep our merry band together why not set up a Facebook or
WhatsApp page/group? Wouldnt have to wait 24 hours to get a reply as it
will be almost instant? Set it as a private group leave the contact options
on here so anyone who wants to stay in touch can pop over to the new
location. And that way we would not have a “me too” email that is forty
foot long cos no one removed the original emails from the reply. If you
choose whatsapp you can video message at no cost etc.

Happy New Year all

Pete have you tried Feathers MC? John McClain does "SEAL" dubbing and is
based in USA Try it nothing to lose I guess.

If you want seal for real I can get it in the UK and send it. And I can I
believe get Cites tickets too. Via

2019-05-26 Thread 'KP' via VFB Mail

Hi Rene
Yupp good to see everyone around despite the various challenges we all seem
to face to one degree or another.
I have worked for Orvi for 10 years and enjoy most of the time. Always the
odd day where I could just say enough is enough.
Then I go fishin and all is well catch or not :-)
Hope you are well sir
Keith

Hi Chuck

Glad you had a good day catchin not fishin :-)
The Clearwater is a good line. Its a 1/2 line weight heavier than a
standard line and should work the rod nicely.
As for your fly tying guide your right its a great book. And we cant get
them in the UK !!! Crazy.
Thanks Alan. I think it just makes sense !!
Cheers all

[VFB] Re: Cheap but good fly line

2019-05-01 Thread 'KP' via VFB Mail
Chuck,
I work for Orvis in the UK. Which line was it you got at $29.95 ? The Orvis
line is made in the USA by Scientific Anglers. Orvis own SA. If you are not
happy with it you can send it back to Orvis and they will refund it. What
make is the Ebay jobby?
What many folk forget is that just because a line costs a load of money if
its not a good match with the rod then it wont work to its optimum. Plus
the way you cast as in your style can make a difference. I always try to
get people look at this when buying lines. Ive had the same as you say.
Cheap line and good rod matched work wonderfully. And on occassion the
cheap rod expensive line works well. Its you that casts the line by bending
the rod properly. The matched combo of line and rod make a huge difference
to an un matched combo.
Its also good to get a good deal when buying your gear. Looks like you did
that with your ebay purchase.
Cheers
KP
