2012-08-18 Thread Alan Di Somma
Exactly right Nev.
I can't be sure the two rods fell over at the same time, and which direction it
is laying on the bottom. Luckily , I was only about 30-40 yards from shore when
I noticed they were gone.
I know the spot I picked the one up. Strange thing is that one fell to the
bottom and the other stood up so I could grab the tip and lift it out. That's
how I know how deep the water was .

2012-08-17 Thread Neville Gosling
There is not much on a fly rod that would be attracted by a powerful magnet.
only the guides and there's not much mass there. Some guides are stainless
steel and is not attracted by magnets. Most reel seats feature aluminum so I
would not hold out too much hope.

RE: [VFB] Lost rod

2012-08-17 Thread Webb, Gary
Neville you're right. But with that strong a magnet maybe even a spring in the
reel would be enough to grab it. I think I'll check some of mine at home. I
have some magnets from old hard drives. Of course my reels are not of the
variety machined from a solid block of aircraft aluminum.

There is not much on a fly rod that would be attracted by a powerful magnet.
only the guides and there's not much mass there. Some guides are stainless
steel and is not attracted by magnets. Most reel seats feature aluminum so I
would not hold out too much hope.

I had it on my bucket list when I came so I got certified. It is fun and I
still go occasionally. But we also snorkel some and while I am almost as
old as Fish I can still dive. So if I were near you I would come and help.

there just isn't enough metal I think I can vouch for the effectiveness of
the garden rake. Joyce

I'm with Joyce on the rake. If it was me, I would develop a grid and drag in
