Re: [VFB] Lost rod
Exactly right Nev. I can't be sure the two rods fell over at the same time, and which direction it is laying on the bottom. Luckily , I was only about 30-40 yards from shore when I noticed they were gone. I know the spot I picked the one up. Strange thing is that one fell to the bottom and the other stood up so I could grab the tip and lift it out. That's how I know how deep the water was . There is not much on a fly rod that would be attracted by a powerful magnet. only the guides and there's not much mass there. Some guides are stainless steel and is not attracted by magnets. Most reel seats feature aluminum so I would not hold out too much hope. Neville (Nev) Gosling On 2012-08-17, at 10:37 AM, Allan Fish wrote: Hey, that's a lot cheaper than buying a new rod! Neville you're right. But with that strong a magnet maybe even a spring in the reel would be enough to grab it. I think I'll check some of mine at home. I have some magnets from old hard drives. Re: [VFB] Lost rod
So sorry you didn't find your rod. But, try the rake with a rope through the hole in the handle..catches more than a magnet ever will as on the rod there just isn't enough metal I think I can vouch for the effectiveness of the garden rake. Re: [VFB] Lost rod
I'm with Joyce on the rake. If it was me, I would develop a grid and drag in more than one direction. Sometimes, the missing item is not where you think it may be.
