Re: [videoblogging] Forbes Issue on Networking

2007-04-29 Thread Rupert
Thanks for posting this.
I liked this paragraph, in P J O'Rourke's Adam Smith article -
reminded me of our recent discussions about regulations. Concisely put:
That's the paradox of voluntary association: The personal liberty
and moral persuasiveness of the free market depend on the coercive
force of the law. We need law to protect property rights, to enforce
contract, to thwart collusion and monopoly and to keep the weak safe
from the strong. The political system that enforces this law then
proceeds, all too often, to invade property rights, nullify
contracts, promote collusion, create monopoly and become so strong
that no one's safe.

Maybe the Internet can help. The voluntary association of the
Internet has no town into which the bad guys can ride. Or the good
guys, either. Persuasion, and only persuasion, operates the Internet.
You can't send a punch in the nose down a DSL line. True, fraud is
abundant on the Internet, but in fairness to thousands of clever
Nigerians, fraud is a form of persuasion.

Just started reading, but I'm impressed, particularly as some of the

[videoblogging] The Power of Collaboration

2007-04-29 Thread JD Lasica
I'm helping to enlist participants for a panel for the Web Video
Summit being put on in San Jose, Calif., in late June. Here's an early
description:

The Power of Collaboration

Video-making begins as a solo act. But more and more producers are
discovering the benefits of working in a team setting with
participants spread out around the world. We'll look at these
collaborative workflows to explore how and why people connect with
each other. Often, the high-impact, high-quality works they produce
not only make a creative statement but have the potential to generate
revenue.

Anyone on this list who does collaborative video work and might be
interested in taking part, please email me off-list.

thanks!

[videoblogging] Re: Videos explaining Creative Commons

2007-04-29 Thread Mark Smith
Jay thanks for the link.

This weekend I've been reading Lawrence Lessig's book Free Culture all
about creativity and copyright so perfect timing for the link. :)

Anybody else read this book? What do you think?

I'm finding it really interesting, very well written, great background
knowledge for anyone creating media.

This user - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Pdelongchamp - constantly
fucks with the entry (deleting everything useful in it). It's pathetic. I
can't believe Meiser still has the patience to try work on the article as
his changes usually get deleted within hours.
