[videoblogging] Re: AFTRA Jurisdiction Over Web Media?
All of the Guilds are struggling over where they fit into this new digital world, and both SAG and AFTRA on the acting side have claimed all internet productions to be under their juristiction. Which is a bit of a stretch. But basically the guilds are reacting to the trends of reality TV (which is totally non-union) and how they got screwed in the 80s on Home Video. They negotiated low money on home video and then got screwed when that business really took off. The best thing is to avoid them. When we hire people we use the guild guidelines in terms of payscale and breaks, etc. But avoid becoming a guild signatory because unless you have dedicated people that know how to care and feed the guilds with the proper money and paperwork, you're just asking yourself for a world of hurt. As always, your mileage may vary. And please talk to knowledgable attorney before making any decisions for yourself. -Kent, askaninja.com --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, Justin Kownacki [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hey folks; One of our cast members joined AFTRA today (for an unrelated production), and it turns out the gent he was talking to at AFTRA knows of our show. He also explained that AFTRA has full jurisdiction over internet productions, and they'd like to sit down with us to work out a deferred payment contract for our entire cast. Has anyone else been involved in discussions of this sort? I'm completely unaware of AFTRA's jurisdiction over the web, though I presume I must be late to the table on this. Anyone have any negotiating tips? Cheers. Justin Kownacki Producer, Something to Be Desired http://www.somethingtobedesired.com
[videoblogging] Jerry Zucker launches National Banana dot com
Jerry Zucker who keynoted the Vloggies in November just launched last night his new internet video site with 3 videos called National Banana - www.nationalbanana.comhttp://www.nationalbanana.com/ For everyone who attended the Vloggies you hear him say that the studios are all messed up and now he is producing directly for the Internet. Jerry is one of the most viral comedian, directors, writers, and producers of all time. He understands the human condition and his new video are pushing the envelope again. Jerry is the master of 'tongue in cheek' comedy. For PodTech this is a new addition in the area of digital entertainment and we will be adding more producers in this area. National Banana is a new studio and comedy network based out of Santa Monica. They have a good flow of content coming. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

[videoblogging] Open Source Cinema - Girl Talk remix contest!
Hey all! This is Brett from OpenSourceCinema.org . I'm excited to announce we're holding a remix contest. It's to make a remix video of Girl Talk, the mashup man of the moment. Jay and Ryanne were just shooting some stuff with him when he won a WIRED Rave award. We filmed him dancing with Paris Hilton at Coachella. He's in Playgirl magazine next month. It's totally off the chain. We've been filming with him for half a year for the feature documentary that we're doing in co-production with the National Film Board of Canada about copyright in the digital age. We're making the film as Open Source as possible - the script is a wiki, and we're putting up all the footage we shoot and inviting people to submit their own footage and create remixes. So we want to acid test the idea, and I've put up one of my edits of Girl Talk - complete with the Final Cut Pro file and all the source material. To shake things up a bit we're offering $250 cash prize for the best remix! Visit www.opensourcecinema.org/create to check it out! We've got lots of other areas and remix requests on there - hoping to see some of you on the site! And if you have ideas on how we can improve the process, please chime in! Best, Brett --- Brett Gaylor http://www.homelessnation.org http://www.opensourcecinema.org http://www.etherworks.ca

[videoblogging] Camera Motor Sound
My footage always has some motor sound in the audio everytime I record. I'm using a Sony DCR-TRV330 and Final Cut Express. Is there a way to fix it or is it a problem with my camera? -- -Jonathan Bloom http://thenameiwantedwastaken.com
Re: [videoblogging] Camera Motor Sound
You could try using an external microphone. Chances are your camera's internal mic is picking up it's own noise. Hope that helps. -Scott www.americancliche.net On May 7, 2007, at 4:26 PM, Jonathan Bloom wrote: My footage always has some motor sound in the audio everytime I record. Re: [videoblogging] Camera Motor Sound
Easiest way to fix it is to record the sound to a separate source and synch it later. Just use a clapper, or even a shot of a person clapping, and line up the sound of the clap with the picture. This is how it was done in films for years and, despite what some editors claim, it's really easy, especially in a digital setup when you can see the waveform. Re: [videoblogging] Camera Motor Sound
Well, I'm using a kind-of external microphone. It's an external shotgun microphone plugged into the microphone slot using the jack on the top. Re: [videoblogging] Camera Motor Sound
No, not an external microphone, to a separate source entirely. For example, an mp3 player with a line in jack. (I assume we're talking about doing stuff on the cheap here.)
