This sounds like fun. I probably cannot make it but am going to try. Can
you please tell me the location and district in Tokyo? We have so many
visitors from Japan that watch Beach Walks and sometimes get their pics on
the show. :-) I would love to come!

yeah...this is a good project that Chris spearheaded at WGBH:
http://lab.wgbh.org/sandbox
The problem is that the watermark makes the video less attractive to use.
If i'm making a video, and then use a snippet of an eagle with the
WGBH watermark...it might kill the mood im trying to create.
Imagine if all of us put watermarks on our videos.
it'd make for some crazy mash ups.

are yu finding people who regularly use the WGBH library of video?

its WGBH's decision for how open they want to be with their material.
Creative Commons is a smart licensing system, and all these little
outbursts are helping people realize that we actually have to respect
CC in our own work. it's an interesting time.

[videoblogging] Re: Remain Calm

2007-12-19 Thread Steve Watkins
A decent resolution has been found, they've redone the video, version 1.1, with
a lot more
attribution etc and some content changes, see here for info:

http://www.richterscales.com/blog/

Ultimately if there comes a time where the masses reuse content, where use of
existing
content becomes as easy as the use of words, there will be technology to help
with these
issues. A possible intelligent net of the future would ensure that all
pertinent information
stayed with the 'asset' and was still available no matter how that asset was
reused. This
scenario is by no means a certainty, but if human society continues to be more
digital in
future, something along those lines may be needed.

Cheers

I do the same as Cheryl and also add a small note on the image in the movie
when possible - and can't say enough about adding the hyperlink in the show
notes. Link love is one of the best ways to thank others for their creative

And as Bill says, if it is full copyright (All Rights Reserved), then you

[videoblogging] Re: Remain Calm

2007-12-19 Thread Cheryl
I don't know if it's a "best" practice, but I attribute in the end
credits of the video AND via text plus hyperlink in my show notes.

In the video credits I will put as much info as I can, or as is known
- name of creator, title and/or medium of whatever I used, and the URL
of the original content or to the creator's web site. Sometimes I
shorten this information if it won't fit on screen at a legible size.

In the show notes I try to put as much info as possible, especially if
I couldn't fit it all in the video credit.

The idea here is that if the video is copied or shared out of context
of my site, viewers will still see an attribution.

Can anyone recommend a good repair shop for a JVC Mini DV camcorder in
the SF bay area? I already tried "All Video Repair" which is a JVC
authorized repair center but unfortunately they don't know what the
hell they're doing. It's already been there but the problem persists.

Camera records fine but playback has audio pops and drop outs. Old
tapes that used to play fine now don't play. So the playback has
problems only. At this point I'm thinking of just chucking it on ebay
and getting something else. I could also keep it just for recording in
addition to getting something else, not sure.
