Re: [videoblogging] Forum software.
So I'm wondering if anybody knows which open source forum software I should be using to run a private forum. Ideally, I'd like to pre-approve email addresses, so there isn't much hassle to sign up for friends. But if I don't know you, then you get hassled. its not open source, but i really like http://www.lefora.com/ because its so easy to set up an old school forum. Making it private is easy. The guys that make it (the Meebo dudes) are good in my book. always respond to questions through their support. As Adam said, Wordpress has several open source options if you dont mind installing stuff on your own server. we use bbPress.org for http://showinabox.tv/forum. like wordpress, you just install free plugins and themes that are available online. [videoblogging] Re: CBS videoblogs
Interesting (if you're into those kind of behind-the-scenes-ish shows), well done and EXPENSIVE. I watched episode 10. Towards the end, one of the actors throws this lamp and the camera spins to show where it landed and you can see the boom operator AND the second cameraman. So that's at least three crew members and two actors being paid for every minute they filmed that. Not to mention, that's the guy from Superbad, so he's obviously in whatever union. Also, pre-production, direction, editing, etc. I like the format, although internet-wise, I could have stood for that episode to have been THREE episodes because it's so slow, but if you can get people interested in the behind-the-scenes lives of your characters, I can see shows of this type being the next step in both the evolution of youtubeish I'm sitting in front of my webcam talking videos and the 'descent' of MSM into the web video space. [videoblogging] pouringdown on PBS?
hi all i certainly don't have the one to five million views per video of some of my esteemed list-mates. or the costumes. and sadly, i don't try for more than one emotion at a time. that's hard. sometimes, though, i try to show exactly what i'm thinking. very briefly. and sometimes, when i'm sort of lucky, it works. and this has given me great happiness. and sometimes in that happiness i remember the revolution at the heart of this stuff. put out in the world what you wish to see. consume what you wish to consume. if you wish to emulate other media forms, if you wish to simply make homemade versions of the stuff that's already out there, more power to you. but, i have a suspicion there's something more interesting to get at. which brings us, finally, to the point. i'm trying to get at something. and it might make it onto pbs here in new york. so go here http://www.thirteen.org/reel13/films/vote-for-saturdays-short and if you like it (some of you know it already) please vote. and maybe, just maybe, this tiny video will elbow its way onto the airwaves where it can toddle around noisily. with love, daniel __ www.pouringdown.tv

[videoblogging] Use WGBH's b-roll for your election video
Hey everyone, I know there are a lot of folks on this list who seem to be working on politically-themed content, so I wanted to let you know about something I've been working on that might help you all out a bit. I work for WGBH, the PBS station that makes Nova Frontline. For the past month or so I've been pulling footage from the WGBH Archives -- stuff that's related to the election, like b-roll of Washington DC and election newsreel footage -- and I've been digitizing it and categorizing it and whatnot. Anyway, now it's all online in high quality (640x480) and free to download from the WGBH Lab website. It's available under a Creative Commons license so you can't sell it or anything you make with it, but you can do pretty much anything else. http://lab.wgbh.org/sandbox/election Anyway, I just thought that might help out! This is only a small sampling of our Sandbox of many different types of clips, but this just seemed especially relevant right now.
