different gamma of the different monitors. macs trad. are brighter
than PCs, and if you don't turn the knobs then your monitor might also
be too much of one color (like your colour tv set).

on a mac system preferences - display always let you build a custom
profile or use a preset. no idea on pc. personally I don't bother
since you can't go around determining everyone's monitors for your
work :-) (but if you were editing for publishing/tv then it does
matter...)

Yea, that was my thought tooI mean if every moniter's color is
just a bit different then there is no end to the madnessI have
noticed the darker the color the less likey it is to be shown as
different. I guess I know now why so many web designers stick to
darker colors... :-)

 Abstract

This document specifies the third version of the Synchronized Multimedia
Integration Language (SMIL, pronounced smile). SMIL 3.0 has the
 following design goals:

   * Define an XML-based language that allows authors to write
interactive multimedia presentations. Using SMIL, an author may
describe the temporal behaviour of a multimedia presentation,
associate hyperlinks with media objects and describe the layout
of the presentation on a screen.
   * Allow reusing of SMIL syntax and semantics in other XML-based
languages, in particular those who need to represent timing and
synchronization. For example, SMIL components are used for
integrating timing into XHTML [XHTML10] and into SVG [SVG].
   * Extend the functionalities contained in the SMIL 2.1 [SMIL21]
into new or revised SMIL 3.0 modules.
   * Define new SMIL 3.0 Profiles incorporating features useful
 within the industry.

 Status of this document [excerpts]

This document has been reviewed by W3C Members, by software developers,
and by other W3C groups and interested parties, and is endorsed by the
Director as a W3C Recommendation. It is a stable document and may be
used as reference material or cited from another document. W3C's role in
making the Recommendation is to draw attention to the specification and
to promote its widespread deployment. This enhances the functionality
 and interoperability of the Web.

This SMIL 3.0 edition is a new version, it extends the functionalities
contained in SMIL 2.1 [SMIL21], incorporating new features useful within
 the industry.

 This SMIL3.0 W3C Recommendation supersedes the 13 December 2005 SMIL 21
 Recommendation [SMIL21].

The SMIL 3.0 test suite along with an implementation report are publicly
released and are intended solely to be used as proof of SMIL 3.0
implementability. It is only a snapshot of the actual implementation
behaviors at one moment of time, as these implementations may not be
immediately available to the public. The interoperability data is not
intended to be used for assessing or grading the performance of any
 individual implementation.

This document has been produced by the SYMM Working Group as part of the
W3C Synchronized Multimedia Activity, following the procedures set out
for the W3C Process. The goals of the SYMM Working Group are discussed
in the SYMM Working Group Charter. The authors of this document are the
SYMM Working Group members. Different parts of the document have
 different editors.

Please report errors in this document to [EMAIL PROTECTED] - (public
archives) including the prefix '[SMIL30 REC]' in the subject line.

This document was produced by a group operating under the 5 February
2004 W3C Patent Policy. W3C maintains a public list of any patent
disclosures made in connection with the deliverables of the group; that
page also includes instructions for disclosing a patent. An individual
who has actual knowledge of a patent which the individual believes
contains Essential Claim(s) must disclose the information in accordance
with section 6 of the W3C Patent Policy.

Re: [videoblogging] MAC Stream Desktop iMac G3 500 mhz

2008-12-01 Thread J. N. P.
hi!

i suppose you can use any stream company like mogulus.com or
ustream.com with Camtwist application. It should work.

some urls:
http://www.allocinit.com/index.php?title=CamTwist
http://www.ustream.tv/blog/2007/05/28/new-camtwist-release-interview-with-steve-green-developer-of-camtwist/
http://www.ustream.tv/blog/2007/06/06/pirillo-reveals-the-power-of-camtwist-how-to-make-better-ustream-shows/

hope it works.
... but i think you g3 cpu will have some problems managing those
apps... the other way could be using a sort of tv out on the iMac and
then a dv camara used as a analog to DV/firewire converter for another
computer to compress/broadcast. just more cumbersome because of the
smaller power cpu your iMac has.

sounds like what you want to do is screencast or record what you do
o your desktop.
is this correct?

This will work:

you just need to make sure you're running a new mac OS.

Streaming means that people can see a video/desktop live.
please explain what exactly this is for in case I havent hit the nail
on the head.

Hey Jeff. iMac G3's are a hobby of mine, down to just 5 but I do have the Ruby
and Sage. Gave a Flowerpower to my niece. Way to slow for any video but they
rock the music with those solid Harmon Kardon speaker. BTW, 600 mhz barely
plays most videos without stuttering the picture.

[videoblogging] Interesting things going on over at YT

2008-12-01 Thread Sheila English
I was checking out some videos on YouTube and noticed on one of the
videos that there was a blank spot to the right of the video screen,
within the video player, and it was letting me know that an ad could
go there. An ad on the right side, not the lower third, which is what
I'm used to.
Could this be the reason for the new wide screens I wonder? I don't
know, I'm just wondering.
Now YT has a way to promote your videos or channel through a sort of
AdWords-type arrangement. Interesting. Will try that out for sure.

I really like the addition to Insight (YouTube analytics). I was
checking out the Hot Spots feature and wondered what others thought
about it? If you've not seen it, it tells you how your video did in
comparison to others of the same length. I like seeing where people
started dropping interest. It's a helpful tool.

Seems like YT is gearing up for 2009 with some new and interesting things.
