[videoblogging] Zi8 with ECM-DS70P

2010-05-08 Thread MyFirstMemoryDotOrg
I recently bought this combination, and the results are disappointing.

Can anyone give their opinion on the results?

1st test:
Just the camera: http://vimeo.com/11574151
With the mic: http://vimeo.com/11574105

I suppose the buzzing came from the two laptops operating very close, so we did
a second test.

2nd test:
Just the camera: http://vimeo.com/11574258
With the mic: http://vimeo.com/11574273

Why is the sound quality worse with the mic? What am I doing wrong?

btw, got a PM about upgrading the firmware, and the camera came with 1.06, the
latest one.

[videoblogging] MySpace- Anyone have a contact there?

2010-05-08 Thread Sheila E
Here's my dilemma; we have some high profile clients like National Geographic,
etc. We create videos for them. We license the material we use. But, sometimes
they want popular music, which we do license, and even though we have the
license and can prove it, MySpace blocks us and then I have to either delete
the material or try to fight it, which never gets addressed...ever! Then I
can't upload to my MySpace site of nearly 10,000 friends.

I have emailed them letting them know I can fax the license and asking if they
have something for a business like ours. YouTube is VERY helpful and so are
many other sites who realize there are small businesses who are doing the right
thing by legally licensing music and other elements.

MySpace, however, alienates itself by not having something in place to address
this. It is hurting it's brand and doesn't even seem to be aware.

I would love to find a contact there to talk to about this. Does anyone know
someone there that might help?

Thanks!

Sheila

The first set with mic off I heard a high pitched sound in the background but
the audio was clear.

In the second set there was something muting the sound or there was some kind
of distance. Was the mic held at the same distance and position each time?

Just my 2 cents,

Yes, pretty much. The 2nd room was much bigger, but the camera should perform,
no? This is just basic test videos in a quiet environment. If it is not
performing in these, what can I expect out in the field?

So...just exactly what kind of performance are you expecting out of a $150
camera?

I hope nothing professional. It's a low caliber camera. Pretty much you'll get
something between crap and amateur results.

David has a point. Inexpensive cameras offer amazing convenience but
limited quality. I use my iPhone to record video clips these days. The
sound/images are pretty horrible (compared to a pro camera), but it
allows me to record moments I would lose otherwise. I just love having
it in my pocket. Like old Super8, I think creaky DV video has its ow
special look that we'll all have good memories of when we're old. Like
when I see VHS now.

I use a nice camera and dedicated microphone to record events that
must be professional looking.
