Re: [videoblogging] File size with Sanyo HD1

2006-03-05 Thread Allen Weiner

I have a Sanyo Xacti first generation, and the MPEG4 files compress quite nicely. I am looking at the HD1 as much for the zoon and (better) low light shooting than for its HD qualities. 100MB would make it "unuploadable" to many hosts and downright nasty to those who will accomodate such large file sizes--meaning I could go out for a meal and return and it would still be uploading.

2005-12-30 Thread Allen Weiner

I find that it varies, but it generally is ready within a few minutes. I have had a few that lingered for hours, and even one that I figured was lost so I re-posted. By and large, I'd day 75% are ready quite promptly. Because they dosome really goodtranscoding (especially from MPEG-4), it's worth the wait.

[videoblogging] My next videocamera?

2005-12-15 Thread Allen Weiner

I am getting to the point where my Sanyo Xacti MPEG-4 camera is reaching its limit based on my desire to do some more advanced video projects. The two biggest issues are its lack of optical zoom and its poor performance in low light situations. I have looked at the new Sony Hi Def camera, but it might be overkill to fix my two biggest issues.

I’d love to suggestions in what a good next camera could be for my needs. (create a ongoing five minute themed program in my new “studio in the garage” setup). I am attending CES this year, so I will have my eye on what’s coming, but some less biased opinions would be helpful.

Re: [videoblogging] google blog search

2005-09-14 Thread Allen Weiner

A few issues. 1) You cannot subscribe to an individual blog one you find it on Google's Blog search. (others such as Bloglines and Blogdigger have that feature) and 2) Google is not searching Podcasts and Videoblogs. AOL launches a Podcast search service today in conjunction with Podscope. The news is somewhat buried.

Re: [videoblogging] Katrina Vlogs - Where Are They?

2005-09-01 Thread Allen Weiner

There are a small handful of postings on Yourtube, and if you go to the Citizen Journalism sites of CNN and MSNBC there are a few there as well. I am somewhat surprised overt he lack of Vlog postings, but those onsite are no doubt more concerned about coming out alive than shooting video. What I mostly have seen online is video from WWL-TV and hijacked clips from CNN.

Someone needs to tell the folks at Current TV to accept MPEG4 video. To do not accept native MPEG4 video at this point.

So as some of you are probably aware, Al Gore's new television station Current TV launched about a month ago, and a few weeks ago the Current online Studio launched at http://current.tv/ studio/ and there are a lot of worthwhile videos that have been uploaded. In a spirit that somewhat embodies vlogging, a few hundred videos by independent producers have found their way onto the site and the topics are all over the map.One thing that Current has implemented is a green-lighting process which allows viewers to vote for videos they think are ready for television. It's important to note that these green-lights do not determine what goes on the air; however, and the videos that Current has thus far chosen to air are not uniformly
the ones with the most green lights. Even still, I'd like to encourage all of you to register for the site and check out my videos that I have up and to green light anything you like.
