[videoblogging] Mike Hudack

2008-04-14 Thread Devon White
Hey everyone,

I recently posted a video interview with Blip.tv's CEO, Mike Hudack.
For those of you who haven't met him in person - he's charming, well-spoken
and on-point.
I thought this list might have a particular interest in seeing the
interview.
You can check it out at www.pathbreaker.tv.

Here's to meta-media - a leader in the democratization of media on what it's
like to do what he does.

Enjoy.

I crave your mouth, your voice, your hair.
Silent and starving, I prowl through the streets.
Bread does not nourish me, dawn disrupts me, all day
I hunt for the liquid measure of your steps.

I hunger for your sleek laugh,
your hands the color of a savage harvest,
hunger for the pale stones of your fingernails,
I want to eat your skin like a whole almond.

I want to eat the sunbeam flaring in your lovely body,
the sovereign nose of your arrogant face,
I want to eat the fleeting shade of your lashes,

and I pace around hungry, sniffing the twilight,
hunting for you, for your hot heart,
like a puma in the barrens of Quitratue.

[videoblogging] Introductions: the birth of my videoblog.

2007-04-13 Thread Devon White
Hi everyone. I've been around the group for a while, lurking, posting
every once in a long time. I set up a videoblog a few months back but
couldn't get the technology right so i went back to the drawing board
- this time with Shane and Roxanne (www.barefeetstudios.com and
www.beachwalks.tv) at my side. They've done a really wonderful job for
us. (Thanks guys!)

Now, we've gone live (www.SexWithDevon.tv - fyi - there's some
explicit content) and posting on this list is
like a Southern belle coming of age and having her coming out
debutante ball - it just has to be done.

My girlfriend and i (she's usually behind the camera) do a weekly show
- although we posted a bunch of videos right away so there are a few
shows already up.

Honestly, most of the technology conversations on here are pretty well
above my head. My real passion and interest is in behavioral
technologies, evolution, and how the nervous system functions. Which
is how i got into talking about sex. Whenever i did
lecture-performances at colleges on co-creating reality or quantum
hypnosis or exquisite decisions i'd get like 12 people in the room.
But sure enough, when i titled it, The Best Head Ever i'd get a
packed room with hundreds of horny kids.

Anyway, there's no official introduction to the videoblogging group on
the site, but having these thesis-long digests in my inbox every day
for something like two years has been the driving force for me to get
up a videoblog of my own and participate in the conversation and the
redefinition of media.

Thanks for the inspiration.
And thanks to Mike Meiser who's been telling me to get involved for years.

Cheers to you all,

Devon

p.s. I'm new to this medium in every way. I feel like a pubescent
teenager and I have no idea what format the show will ultimately take.
All i know is that i love doing this and i want to do it more. So,
please, any and all feedback is welcomed. And if you have a link you
think i should put on my blogroll, please send it my way. Best to you all.

[videoblogging] Re: another video contest: How Do You Make Safe Sexy (Planned Parenthood

2006-10-28 Thread Devon White
Funny, i actually just began a special kids portion of my video podcast.
I recorded the first one last night. It's about what it's like to have your
hormones kicking in. I'm really blown away by how poorly our public
education educates our children on sex and safety.

Hail to videoblogging. Now maybe we can begin getting good information out
to younger humans that are being blocked from it by educational bureaucracy
or religious myopia - or both.

Now all i have to do is get my site working so i can actually have this
conversation the way it should be had - as a video.

thanks for the heads up Deirdra.

[videoblogging] Re: What Makes a Show Great?

2006-10-28 Thread Devon White
Wow, this whole thread couldn't have come at a better time.
After lurking on this list for probably a full year and being encouraged to
get involved by Mike (Meiser) in the video conversation, i'm finally taking
the plunge.

And, without any experience in the medium, nor with coding, making video,
using audio equipment, acting, directing or being on camera - there are just
so many things to consider that i know that i don't know to consider and to
go ahead anyway and just do something to find out how it feels. This is very
cool and it's really great to have a community of people that are so
passionate about it already deeply involved in the conversation - so i can
eavesdrop.

And now i'm working on setting up my own video, learning how high my
production values are, and how far i am from meeting those values, but
wanting to have the conversation anyway. So i've opted for what i now
realize was a kind of complex videoblog format because i like how RocketBoom
is set up. Then we had some serious over-modulation on the audio of a
performance i did and then casted. And then we tried to make a professional
looking background and spent like four hours trying to get it set up, and
then didn't really have anything inspired to say, and when i did, our
professional background fell down. Now we're using a black sheet.

I feel like a teenager fumbling around with a bra clasp. This is so
exciting! I love the wild world of video blogging - not knowing what the
hell to do, and simultaneously trying everything, making decisions,
realizing that my tongue shouldn't go that far into her mouth and hoping
that i can recover quickly enough that she doesn't scrap the whole mission -
that she'll keep kissing me long enough for us to be really connected again
- cause i know that's when the magick happens.

...which is what a good show is for me...it's about creating the magick.
Inspiring someone - just for a second, so that they resonate at the deepest
levels with who they are most... The more engaging it is for the people i'm
conversing with (whether that means fun, funny, weird, dazzling, quirky,
whatever) - the more of a connection it really creates. And, for me, my
casts are (or will be when they're working) a conversation, so a good show
will be a good conversation and a good month will be all about how well it
engages and grows with my audience - whether that's two people or two
thousand. And ultimately, for purely selfish reasons, my good show will be
about how many people walk away with something valuable for themselves - and
getting everything that hinders that to be gone from my blog.

So, as i continue down this path, carving out more time in my day to watch
(and steal from) your videos, reading these posts, and realizing in greater
and more meaningful depth what kind of relationships transparency, video and
this group engender, i wanted to say thanks to Jay and whomever else set
this list up, and to pay a little tribute to a group that is pioneering some
significant part of the future of communication. So, thanks.

Off to edit some video so i can post it when we get this damnable RSS feed
working,

-Devon
