thanks jen for mentioning remixamerica.org ! kaltura happens to be
one of our technical partners, and while i can't speak for kaltura i
can say we've been quite impressed with the tool. on the other hand,
our remixers have found the software too simple. if you hop into the
editor we have at remix america, and then click on the advanced
editor, you'll find an online suite that kicks ass. alas, like all
other online cloud tools, it has it's drawbacks.

as for the drupal AND wordpress plugins, they will provide you with an
in browser/site editing tool like you see at remixamerica.org . at
the end of the day, we are their ginny pig. any crits you have of
their tool, we feed it right back to them (ie flat files, rss,
collaborative editing, etc.). while you might not be a remixer, feel
free to use us a test bed, AND if you do start making some remixes,
we'd love to feature you on the site (which by convention time is
gonna look awesomer!).

RE: [videoblogging] Kaltura - crazy web editing tool

2008-08-08 Thread Jim Kukral
Can Kaltura do this? This is what I want to do.

1. Record/video myself playing a song on the ukulele, no singing.
2. Let someone else watch the video, and record themselves singing, or
playing another instrument over my track.
3. And so on...
4. Let me play all the tracks together. Like mixing a song.

Essentially that's what I'm looking for a tool to do. Can Kaltura do that?
If not, any idea what tool could do that. They key here is video, not just
audio. I can mix tracks in audio.

Not sure what I mean, look how Julia records multiple tracks and combines
them manually.

easy for you to upload your own stuff and pull in media from Youtube,
Flickr, CCMixter and a bunch of other places - and potentially any

You can remix it and let your users remix it themselves. It's super
fluid and fun.

expect they will be continuing development on it.

No - it wasn't the plugin. I just embedded a remixable video. The
plugin allows greater control.
If it'd been just me, I would have left it up there, mucked around
with it some more. But it was more trouble than it was worth. So
much for art.
I have a plan for trying video conversations with it - I'll test it
out and post a message here.
