[videoblogging] Re: DV Tape Disaster!
Thanks Paul and Klaas, I'm a very lucky girl... I got the tape to work and I uploaded all the footage last night to my PC just to make sure I had a good copy that wouldn't get tangled up again (the original plan was to just do the editing directly from the DV Cam, but that's not an option right now). My show should come out tomorrow as usual and I'll take my cam back to the store on Sunday. Paul, you might be right about the cold-warm condensation idea... Montreal was pretty damn cold on Wednesday. The cam was in my backpack but in Montreal the cold pierces all surfaces! I definitely need to make sure the cam works for the future, my boyfriend and I have plans for three more videoblogs... [videoblogging] Re: DV Tape Disaster!
I feel so bad for Kitka A brand new cam she was so exited to use it and and then a tape problem, I hope she got it solved quickly so we can see her vlogs again. Thanks for the insite of this Paul. I knew to keep it warm otherwise the LCD screen can turn purple, thats what they told me. I did not know of sticky tape because of the temperature and condense, learned something again. thanks Klaas aka blips (newest video at http://vlogmatic.com Ticket65008) --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, Paul Knight <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Hi Kitka, > > You are very lucky to be able to get the tape to work, I have a TV/ > Video background and it has always been the same, the cooler it is > outside, the more chance you have of the tape sticking to the heads. > The dv mechanism is virtually the same as a video record to look at, > and it works like this. > Metal tends to condensate, when brought from a cold environment to a > warmer one, magnetic tape is so thin, it has no problem in sticking > to the heads if condensation is present. Thanks Carl and Bill... I guess I should have it looked at then. I can't believe this happened on my first day using it! I really hope that this problem doesn't cause more sleep deprivation! [videoblogging] Re: DV Tape Disaster!
Yeah I would have the camera looked at by an authorized Panasonic technician. It seems like it could be a hardware problem and since you got the camera so recently it would seem that it should still be under warranty for something like this if it is. [videoblogging] Re: DV Tape Disaster!
Hmm... I have never had this happen with a video camera, but have lost video tapes, cassettes and even a really cool bootleg Jimi Hendrix 8-track tape back in the day. My impression is that this is caused by something to do with the capstans and not a defective tape. You might want to look into this further because it would really suck to have an expensive defective camera. It was bad enough when my $200 MiniDV cam died after three years of hard use. Good luck, Kitka. I await the onslaught of techies who know what they are talking about to correct me on this.
