Best online for learning DIY video shooting and editing? Video blogging?

We start with the classics so in this case http://www.freevlog.org/

Best book for learning DIY video shooting and editing? Video blogging?

The following books have been written by members of the group. There
are digital video books by other folks but these vlogger/writers
understand the unique requirements of the medium.

Secrets of Videoblogging by Michael Verdi and Ryanne Hodson
Videoblogging by Jay Dedman and Josh Paul
Videoblogging for Dummies by Stephanie Bryant

There is no one book - some lean technical and some lean toward let's
get it done.

Best online video hosting platform(s)?

Er - there might be a lot of spirited response to this one. Many of us
here like, appreciate and feel real cozy to Blip.tv.

There is YouTube, Viddler, Vox, Daily Motion, Our Media/Internet
Archive and others. What I would share with you is to read the terms
of service before uploading your stuff. You don't want to lose the
rights to your content simply because a company agrees to host it.
Also if your content is adult in nature or controversial some web
hosts may not want to host your content. For example GodTube is
unlikely to continuing to host a video on the Atheist Manifesto.

Favorite video blog beside your own?

Ah, there are too many. There is a tremendous amount of good work that
is happening both by this group and others. Places you should know
about as a newbie:

The Columbia Migration Project http://www.columbiamigrationproject.net
David Kessler's Shadow Land http://undertheel.blogspot.com
