2008-10-28 Thread Cheryl
Last year there were several comments that it should be called
International Vlog Posting Month (InVloPoMo) or International Vlogging
Month (InVloMo). Because so many participants are outside the U.S. Not
trying to start trouble - just pointing out there's still time to
rechristen it so the name is more inclusive (and possibly easier to
pronounce).

And I'm SO in.

VloMoSloPo stands for something?

I think part of the charm of CloMoVoJo is that I can never remember
how to pronounce it.

If anything we should make PloGoMoJo even harder to remember this year.

Or maybe just start calling BloVloGloMo something short and snappy. Like 'Dave'.

Call it what you like, but for me it will always be SloGoDoJo FTW!

I somewhat agree. I guess for me, vlogging and vloggers remove any
international or national borders.
It certainly could be considered simply VloPoMo (Vlog Posting Month).
A vlog is a vlog if it's David Lee King at a conference in Hawaii,
Jacob Redding posting from Serbia, or me freezing my ass in my back
yard.

Regardless what it's called, I hope there will be plenty of involvement.

1. The na / national thing always bothered me a LOT. But it is late, and
many won't get the word that it has changed from navlopomo (if it does) - so
I suggest a) an agreement on a new, non-nationally-exclusive name/tag and b)
everyone using BOTH tags (navlo - and whatevervlo -).
2. Invlopomo is a little awkward. How about GLOVOPOMO (global vlog posting
month)?

3. I thought I was out, but I'm in for this year. The stupid concept I've
come up with requires me to NOT do anything in advance of the actual day -
no shooting, no nothing - which, since I'm not a talk to the camera vlogger,
means Im out of my mind.

4. Just to repeat, for emphasis - GLOVLOPOMO08. That's my vote. Of course
it could be misconstrued as standing for Gloves Love Post Modernism instead
of Globa Vlog Posting Month, but that's a risk worth taking.

The thing is, it's not Navlopomo in isolation. It springs from
NaBloPoMo, which itself springs from NaNoWriMo. Both those things
have been going on for years in a very international way, but haven't
changed their names. Once something gets shortened, I don't think it
matters what it stands for - it's the aims that count. I don't think
any of the non-US vloggers minded it being NaVloPoMo last year.

And more than anything, I think it'd be confusing to change names at
this point.

Although if we did, I'd prefer a total change to something that
doesn't sound so stupid. All my non-geek friends last year thought
that the name was dumb, and got in the way of describing what it is.
I mean, if you're going to have an acronym, make it a nice sounding
short one, and make the name itself punchy. National Blog Posting
Month or National Novel Writing Month just sound lame, let alone
their shortened versions.

If I could do it all again, I'd choose International Month of Online
Video - IMOV.

Unless there's a big weight of opinion on Twitter or here for one
particular name, though, let's keep it as Navlopomo. If you feel

ha! Definitely not schlomo08... or I'll be passe by new years!:)
Seriously though: I understand why some of you guys would want to change the
name, but the national in the title does not neccesarilly mean United
States, does it?

It just seems that we already have a ning site (which is an offshoot of the
Novel Writing Month), and whatever else... I dunno, just seems to just bring
in more work and not a better sounding name.

But it's not my call really. I just want an agreed upon way to facilitate
the finding/viewing of the month of videos.

I hate to state the obvious but November is next week. What do I call
it? Where is home base? I got a bunch of newbies I can point in that
direction but y'all have got to give me something to work with here.

Is it now at Vimeo? Are we back at Ning?
Is the secret word Mefeedia?

A clue, anything would help...

If you feel
strongly about doing otherwise, get petitioning!

Oh man, it's November already? Dang! Yes, I got stuff and come Nov 4th
I'll have even more stuff. Gonna see what the day brings hanging
around poling places.

I have video, it is the editing block I have that is killing me. I
need the vlogging equivalent of Drano to clear my backlog.

It the guilt. I got the guilt of inadequacy. And almost no time but
mainly the inadequacy thing.

I've purged in public. I feel better now. ;-}

So let us know where to post this stuff and I'll see if I can do
better than making it to day fifteen. I'll see what I can do.

What? That the world is going to end on November 2nd?

Looking forward to more cookery and French cultural instruction from
you this year, Mr Taylor. Your carbonara has been a regular feature
