Shannon Noble showed a bunch of cool arty videos with his trademark sweet sound
design, Adam Q showed some of his internet archive remixed old footage with bizarro text
to speech voiceover, plus a home movie-ish clip from the mountains outside of Seattle,
Josh K. showed freevlog.org, i-tunes and fireant, plus a little tornado footage, Andrew
Baron described the promise of niche vlog content, I used my 10 minutes to show a little
slideshow scenario about how to use a vlog to effect positive change, plus the obligatory
twinkiebath, Peter Van Dijk talked about the latest (and totally impressive) version of
mefeedia, a guy from Yahoo, whose name escapes me, talked about a new service
(unrelated to yahoo, i believe) called youtube.com which allows people to host streaming
video for free, Gabe McIntyre, fresh in from the Netherlands, talked up Vlog Europe, as
well as showing his own content and interviewing Amanda Congdon in front of the
audience for future use on xolo.tv.

Afterwards, people went out to socialize, but I had to run to another gig, so someone else
will have to describe the earthshaking deals that went down at that point.

We had a great audience, more than we had at the first time at the SOHO store. I enjoyed
the format of having less presenters who got more time. Josh did a very smooth job of
emceeing.

I wish someone had spent a bit more time on freevlog, as that would be the point of entry
for interested non vloggers who want to make a vlog and it is such a bitchin' resource.

What good came of the event? I don't know. Everyone got more practice getting up in front
of people and communicating. The fresh faces in the audience seemed interesteddon't
know how that will translate into anything tangible, but ya never know. The  Apple Store, I
imagine, was was happy with us, which could lead to future events (again this is
conjecture, Josh K. would know better), various vloggers got to meet people face to face
they had never met, which is useful.

As for other stuff that came out of it...any one else who was there have stuff to add?

2005-07-31 Thread jonny goldstein

Oh yeah! How could I forget the Leo thingie. That was an awesome way to start. I could
really feel the excitement in the audience from that initial video.

And Josh K. did show the whole intro freevlog video. I think, for future presentations, a
little more time can be spent emphasizing how awesome, amazing, and useful freevlog is,
in addition to showing that video. Like actually say. YES, YOU TOO CAN CREATE YOUR
OWN FREE VIDEOBLOG. ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS ARE RIGHT HERE, AT FREEVLOG.ORG. DID I
MENTION IT WAS ABSOLUTELY FREE? Which Josh K. actually did, but I say do it even
more---repeat over and over a la infommercial. Since people get shown a bunch of stuff
during ar event like this, it's key to really emphasize something through repetition to
make it stand out from the other cool stuff. I just think in the future, lets hit that
freevlog.org nail on the head even harder, even though we did give it a solid thwap.

P.S. Anyone notice how much Apple Store employees say the word "Cool"? The Apple
People must be trained to use that word every third sentence.

Just adding to Jonny's detailed account.
I started off the session showing Josh Leo's "We Are The Media" vlog remix.
I then pointed to freevlog.org and showed the first video there in its entirety.
I also pointed to videoblogging.info and the yahoo group.
After that I tried to give as much time as posisble to the other presenters.

I showed my tornado footage briefly when demonstrating how to
subscribe to RSS feeds with FireANT and iTunes.
