So...just exactly what kind of performance are you expecting out of a $150 camera? I hope nothing professional. It's a low caliber camera. Pretty much you'll get something between crap and amateur results. Nothing professional. Just no hissing. --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, taoofdavid65 taoofda...@... wrote: So...just exactly what kind of performance are you expecting out of a $150 camera? is there a gain button on the camera? If you mean the little mic-icon menu, then yes, I think so. I tried pushing the levels all the way on the + side, abd there was louder sound, but also louder hissing... http://www.camcorderinfo.com/images/upload/Image/Kodak/Kodak_Zi8/Product_Shots/Kodak_Zi8_Menu1.jpg does the cord fit snugly in the camera? I dont know what you're using to edit your videos with however in Final Cut Pro, you can play with the audio using the Parametric Equalizer audio filter. That may help with the hissing. Re: [videoblogging] Re: Zi8 with ECM-DS70P
MyFirstMemoryDotOrg: Nothing professional. Just no hissing. Yet you're not going to achieve anything but poor audio quality (in comparison to more robust units), from systems DESIGNED to be substandard in quality. This, me thinks, is what David was alluding to -- and I tend to agree. The harsh reality is, unfortunately, technology while amazing has limitations relative to purpose. If your purpose is to throw anything up on screen under a belief that content will override poor quality, then inexpensive gear should suffice. But for a few dollars more, however, better product control can be had by using equipment capable of delivering higher production values. As it stands now, issues like over-saturated audio gain (hence, hissing) is an unavoidable element when using cheaper gear. Thus you may want to consider upgrading to a level that better suits your purpose, or deal with the hissing as unavoidable. Hope this helps. i tested the Zi8 with the senn ew100 lav mics. (this mic has an adjustable output level and it took a couple of tries to get the sound right.) in the end had good levels with no high pitched sounds. has anyone else tried mics that have adjustable levels? maybe that's the key? i mainly bought it for vlogging but i think it could be used as an alternate angle to play off the ex-1 (yeah the quality would be way different but could be a cool style:)). i'll post something when i have it. sean http://bit.ly/nakedlens http://www.videoregeneration.com http://www.organikmedia.com --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, compumavengal compumaven...@... wrote: The first set with mic off I heard a high pitched sound in the background but the audio was clear. David has a point. Inexpensive cameras offer amazing convenience but limited quality. I use my iPhone to record video clips these days. The sound/images are pretty horrible (compared to a pro camera), but it allows me to record moments I would lose otherwise. I just love having it in my pocket. Like old Super8, I think creaky DV video has its ow special look that we'll all have good memories of when we're old. Like when I see VHS now. I use a nice camera and dedicated microphone to record events that must be professional looking. Jay -- http://ryanishungry.com http://twitter.com/jaydedman 917 371 6790
