Well, at least we've progressed beyond the perverbial if your not a part of the solution you're a part of the problem stage. While being on abc's site has plenty of markeitng clout, I have no doubt that ABC... wether because someone there listens to the blogosphere, us or amanda... will come around. After all amanda does have many other vlogs like starring.amandacongdon.com that will illustrate over time the importance of accessibility. Some have misconstued this as a debate over the definition of a vlog... whatever... get over it... sorry to have mislead in the title. My point is there is a reason for all the constructs in vlogging. And that point is accessibility and usability. I could give a crap less about what people want to call it, but without many of the core fundamental features in a blog like permalinks, and an archive it'll be hard to get and retain regular viewership. -Mike On 12/23/06, Zack [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: This is confusing to me. I could give a crap less about what people want to call it, but without many of the core fundamental features in a blog like permalinks, and an archive it'll be hard to get and retain regular viewership. Hmmm. Time will tell. And technology will evolve whether we're involved or not. Lots of people don't know what permalinks are. But they know they can subscribe for things in iTunes and see previous episodes listed in iTunes. Show notes? It won't be long before subscribers start asking for them. And things will happen. Once you involve the general public, you also involve decision-makers in the general public. They won't act, until they understand... That Amanda has caught the attention of mainstream media and public is encouraging. They have taken among the best the vlogger community has to offer and this means the ball is really rolling. The permalinks for example in the feed just link back to a generic ABC podcast overview page, this is utterly clueless. RSS feeds aren't just about aggregation they're about search and findability as well. The whole idea of the permalink is to tie the videos / podcasts back to the original post, the original show notes. Your vlog on ABC seems to have todays shownotes/ links... but I'll be damned if I know where they go after that. ABC should get a clue and just

Re: [videoblogging] Re: Amanda on ABC is not a vlog
Heh, my argument is VERY simple. All I'm saying is it's not a blog. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blog You can argue all day about wether it has videos or not, but it ain't no blog. :) I would tend to think that if it ain't no blog that this would make it certainly by definition no videoblog. If you call this thing qualifies as a blog you mine as well call any and every page on the web a blog. Besides... it's not about what you call it. It's about what it does... and it has not a single mechanism that blogs tend to have that make them useful tools for communication. So... if it is a blog or even a video blog, you must admit it's one of the worst damn blogs evar. This completely despite Amanda, her winning personal verbals stylings, personality and choicey news bits. Which I hear are in there somewhere, burried behind a mess of ads and popout windows. Re: [videoblogging] Re: Amanda on ABC is not a vlog
Amanda, Am angle I might take with ABC is to just let you setup your own vlog where you can post the weekly videos (and anthing else you might care to contribute) on it with proper RSS feeds. They can still incorporate your videos into that god-awful ad-ridden abyss of a popup window UI since thats the standard for the industry and I doubt you will get them to completely drop that approach. But to let you have this companion videoblog would be great and could even be used to compare views/subscribers between the two environments in which case you would have some good proof to show them (assuming the numbers are good/better than the standard VOD player thingie). Just a thought. Sull On 12/22/06, Amanda Congdon [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi Mike, We have comments, links and an RSS feed w/enclosures. The site is a mess, you are right.
