Hmm. I missed that piece of news before. Otherwise, I would have agreed with
Jarod. I've never felt sure about the gray areas in this one.

No, Josh has always said he doesn't have

Okay... let's count the things I have to worry about as a blogger:

- saying something that will piss off some religious nut (pick your flavor -
I despise them all) and cause someone to call for my death

- saying something or allowing something to be said on my blog which could
lead to lawsuits for libel, slander, etc.

- saying something that will later be raked up and used against me should I
ever decide to run for public office (whoops - blew that one ages ago)

- appearing to have video or anything else that someone in authority thinks
might possibly provide evidence of crimes they're not even sure occurred,
but would surely like to know about if they did

- in Italy, saying something that could be construed as an offense against
any religion (see http://www.beginningwithi.com/italy/living/opinion.html )

Uh, what were we saying about new media and the Internet giving us all
freedom to express ourselves...?

Wolf has repeatedly stated under oath that his unpublished material
does not contain footage of any of the alleged crimes committed. In a
show of good faith, Wolf has offered to let the judge review his tape.

The Honorable Judge William Alsop refused.

Good quote Bill.
This is the fact that should relieve any worry that Josh is just some
anarchist that some like to peg him as. he's willing to show the
judge the video, but not release it to the authorities who will use it
to identify protestors. Unfortunately, the Federal prosecutor had no
idea it would snowball like this.

read the article. Its really interesting.

The SF Chronicle really puts Josh's case in context of present times
and past legal cases.

Yeah, the Chron article is good.

The important thing besides increasing pressure to release
Josh is to pass a federal shield law.

There is a link here for people in California to send email calling
for a federal shield law which covers all journalists (there is another
version which would not protect bloggers)

http://www.media-alliance.org/article.php?story=20060929165333440

Josh is also interviewed as part of the Frontline News Wars series
which begins on feb. 13. He is on the Feb. 20 episode. The
Feb. 27 episode will cover online media and Frontline/World
in March will profile OhMyNews and Al Jazeera.

They have a preview site up which is pulling in blog
posts on these issues.

This is a set of photos I took at the press conference
on Josh as well as some photos of him from before he went
to jail.
