Re: [videoblogging] new Wordpress Video plugin
youtube clone apps have been around for awhile too. though this and other apps can help bootstrap a so-called online video startup... thats where it ends. it's costly. and the kicker is, as we know, the more popular your site gets, the more costly is gets. Jeroen's flash player (longtailvideo) promotes http://encoding.com which has a nice API. as does Nathan's http://mux.am. If you're a developer, you could just as well look at these examples and not bother with a marriage to Wordpress. not sure how this can be used to excite developers (here). the community video destination site thing is certainly not enough to sustain a startup. and if someone does want to have such a site, you may as well aggregate since their are so many open apis. leverage whats out there and still kicking instead of taking on the expenses yourself. if you're a content creator, you dont need to be looking at this WP platform. sull On Wed, Feb 18, 2009 at 12:50 PM, Jay dedman jay.ded...@gmail.com wrote: we've recently talked about the hassle of using Wordpress as a blogging platform. Interesting how Automatic's plugin description notes how This plugin can also be used as the foundation for a video startup company. Just as there's Ning.com as an open version of Facebook, perhaps this might be the open version of Youtube. Just as there's Ning.com as an open version of Facebook, perhaps this might be the open version of Youtube. Ning is cool because it's so easy to create your own social networkbut as far as I can tell, Ning owns the actual site as long as you keep it in existence. With platforms like Wordpress.org, you take on the burden of hosting...but you control everything. Buddypress.org is WP's version of an open source Facebook. Re: [videoblogging] new Wordpress Video plugin
...very cool, and not for the meek In addition to Web servers for WordPress MU , it requires at least one file server and one dedicated video transcoder. Considerable amount of PHP coding and system administration skills are required to install, customize and deploy this plugin. Speaking of MU and BuddyPress, I've been working with MU for a few years, but I just started a community based on MU and BP. I wonder if I might integrate a video solution someday?
