Re: [Videolib] Question about buying Blu-Rays

2010-11-19 Thread Ball, James (jmb4aw)
Hi Jessica,

I buy Blu-ray but usually only for my film studies professors who I know prefer
Blu-ray, or if it's a title that I think would be especially well-served by
Blu-ray such as Avatar. Packaging is not important to me because we rebox all
of our discs in locking boxes, although we do use the box art so I'd hate to
lose that. Also, for any Blu-ray disc I buy I also get a regular version.

Cheers,

Matt

Subject: [Videolib] Question about buying Blu-Rays

I am dealing with a film where the producer is considering releasing it Blu-Ray
ONLY. It is a very visual film that I imagine will look great, but I also
imagine that will cut down on sales. One alternative is to release a standard
HD Copy but with bare bone boxing Vs the Blu-Ray.

Any feedback on if you would not buy blu-ray or not buy something in generic
box would be appreciated.

You can email me directly if you want.

[Videolib] Trying again...Source for DVD of Tango Feroz?

2010-11-19 Thread May, Margery
Hi all,

No one responded when I sent this query at the end of October. But maybe
now...?...

Can anyone suggest a source for Tango Feroz: la leyenda de Tanguito (Wild
Tango: the Legend of Tanguito), preferably on DVD? WorldCat shows one lone
lorn entry for a DVD of this title and a couple for a VHS copy. I haven't been
able to find either, anywhere. I've found a few hinky-sounding sites and
that's all.

Thanks for any leads you can give me.

Re: [Videolib] Disc cleaner

2010-11-19 Thread Julia Churchill

We wipe each disc as it comes back to us with a soft cloth. If it is really
scratched we use some liquid car wax I purchased at Walgreens for $3.00 a
bottle. I bought it over a year ago and it is still going strong. The wax fills
in the small scratches. We own over 6,000 discs.

   I hope this is helpful.

Hi, all. In a related question to disc cleaning machines, does anyone
know of a place to get just a liquid cleaner similar to Maxell Disc
Electronic Cleaner? Sometimes, all that's needed is a good washing -
rather than a resanding. I've tried the box stores, library supply
companies, Radio Shack, with no luck. Or, would just water or something
like Windex work?Thanks

Probably not what you have in mind but you could show Volunteers with Tom
Hanks. It might lighten things up a bit.

Re: [Videolib] Disc resurfacing units?

2010-11-19 Thread Hutchison, Jane
We also use RTI's DiskChek and we love it. Like Judy stated below, it
does involve gallon bottles, but it's set up in a carrel with the bottle
underneath and it's used quite a bit. It has extended the life of our
disks as well and much better than the dry methods we had previously
used.

I had a grant a few years ago and bought an Eco-Smart from RTI. Like the
one described below, it has various systems for various media/kinds of
scratches, and it does involve gallon bottles of solution and drainage.
It does a wonderful job, and has made for friendly relations with the
actual media library (which was part of my purpose) as well as extending
the life of our disks, which are sometimes a bit rare.

Usually I wait until I have a few to do before setting it up.
