[Videolib] Availability of Blackboards
I have a faculty member looking for public performance rights to Samira Makhmalbaf's film Blackboards (2000) . My investigation shows a different first name: Moshen I've emailed to the address on this page: http://www.makhmalbaf.com/persons.php?p=2 The professor says the films were handled by Wellspring, but that the phone number no longer works. Does anyone have any other leads? Thank you. deg farrelly, Media Librarian Arizona State University Libraries Hayden Library C1H1 P.O. Re: [Videolib] Availability of Blackboards
Deg Wellspring is long gone. A lot of their stuff expired and went back to the producer but it is possible this one is still under contract. What remains of Wellspring is owned by Weinstein. You can try to reach them directly but in theory if they had it Swank would have rights. I would try asking Swank to contact Weinstein and make sure they get a definitive answer or contact them yourself. If all of that fails email me and I will call in a favor and get you the directors contact info. Someone I am working with knows literally all the major Iranian directors and deals with them on a regular basis. OK the plot thickens. Never mind about Mindspring/Weinstein. Turns out they only owned home video rights anyway. The film was actually released by Kimstim and Leisure Time. I sent an email to see if either of them knows the status. Alas my friend who knows every Iranian director ( and is one himself) says Makhmalbaf has been moving around a lot and he has lost touch with her. The original American distributor says they bought the film from a company called Wild Bunch in France but does not know if they still represent it. You can try this person Carole Baraton cbaraton@wildbunch.e cbara...@wildbunch.euu On Tue, Nov 5, 2013 at 5:25 PM, Jessica Rosner maddux2...@gmail.com wrote: OK the plot thickens.
