Re: [Videolib] DVD packaging question

2014-01-14 Thread Meghann Matwichuk
We only replace DVD cases when they're not standard. So for us,
ironically enough, the eco-friendly packaging is probably the least
eco-friendly, since we discard and replace those with typical dvd cases
that adequately protect the material.

Mileage will vary,

Therefore it doesn't make a lot of sense using the traditional DVD
plastic packages if you will be replacing them anyway...
it's a waste. So, I'll do my part with helping climate change and
print my DVDs in the small eco-friendly packaging you see here.

Some libraries may not have the locking case, but they likely use
sturdy
cases that all match, not the flimsy cases that many DVDs are sold in.

 Hi~

Does anyone know if it would be a problem for schools and

buy a DVD that is packaged in eco-packing/sleeves (the size of a CD

Re: [Videolib] PLA conference

2014-01-14 Thread Griest, Bryan
Hi Maxwell!

Imho, PLA is a far better conference to attend for public librarians
than ALA. All of the programs are relevant, versus only a small minority
of them (obviously.) If you are interested in reaching public
librarians, you will find many more of them at PLA. Most libraries can't
afford to send their people to more than one show a year, if that, and
all the libs I've worked with all choose to go to PLA rather than ALA.

Subject: [Videolib] PLA conference

Good afternoon videolib,

Although I know the vast majority of this group works in university
libraries, I was wondering if any public librarians or others in the
know had any insight into the PLA Conference. We have a sizable public
library customer base, thanks to our subscription with public
performance rights (won't shill on this board, but feel free to email me
with questions) and have found it useful to attend ALA so as to reach
both public and academic audiences. We've never been to PLA and are
curious if anybody here can offer their thoughts on it as a market, as a
platform for increased exposure, etc.

Thanks,

Maxwell

[Videolib] If a filmmaker had copyright concerns with his/her film asked you to remove it, would you?

2014-01-14 Thread Cathy Michael
Greetings, Colleagues:

Has a filmmaker ever asked your library to remove his/her film from the
library due to copyright concerns with the film (meaning, in the making of
the film -- the filmmaker realized s/he did not clear something properly)?
If so, how did you handle it?

I once sat in on an ethics discussion on what to due with *books *that were
accused of *plagiarism -*- but never encountered the above situation.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Sincerely,

Cathy
