Re: [Videolib] Suggestions: films with themes of university level int'l students in the US or US students studying abroad

2016-10-20 Thread Berkeley Media
Not surprisingly, we would concur with Deborah Benrubi's previous
recommendation of our excellent documentary, "Beyond Our Boundaries,"
whose subject is exactly an examination of the experiences of
international college-level students living and studying in the U.S.
Here is the link again in case you missed her post:

In addition, our classic documentary, "A World of Gestures," was
filmed in a University of California class containing students from a
wide variety of countries and cultures, which is what makes the film
so good (and so entertaining). Here's the link:

Lastly, we would also suggest our documentary "A World Without
Strangers," which "connects five college-age women from the United
States with five from the Middle East in a media-based dialogue that
illuminates and challenges cross-cultural misconceptions." Here's the
link:

Please contact us directly if you have additional questions about any
of our titles.

Subject: [ebss-l] Movies for International Education Week

Hello colleagues,

We are considering having a movie night on campus during
International Education Week (November 14-18). Do you have any
suggestions for either a feature film or documentary dealing with
themes related to the experiences of (university level)
international students in the United States and/or U.S. students
studying abroad?

Thanks for your ideas,

Ken Frankel

Re: [Videolib] Looking for Bahia: Africa in the Americas

2012-01-26 Thread Berkeley Media
We don't have any current information regarding Michael Brewer here
at Berkeley Media LLC. He obtained the rights to the film through a
divorce action with his former wife and production partner, Geovanni
Brewer, back when the film was still distributed through UC
Extension. As Gary noted, this was not one of the films that we
picked up for distribution by Berkeley Media LLC.

We do know that Michael Brewer produced a DVD version of the film in
2006. He still seems to be working in the Los Angeses area, since he
is apparently involved in litigation there at the present time (comes
up if you google Brewer Media Associates). He also seems to be on
LinkedIn if you want to try to contact him that way.

Sorry we can't be more helpful.

  Hi All,

We have a VHS copy of Bahia: Africa in the Americas but we'd like to
upgrade to a DVD. Does anyone know if it can be purchased somewhere?
It's originally from Brewer Media Associates but they may not be in
  business anymore.

  Cheers,

  Matt
