Well the most basic question here is what evidence does the faculty member have 
to believe the film still exists? The majority of films from that era are lost. 
Did they just read a reference to it in  a book or something that would 
actually show it exists ( screening at a festival, review ?)

My guess would be that IF it exists it is probably in an archive. There is a 
database for all archive holdings kept by the worldwide archive association ( 
FIAF) I can point to someone who could look it up but first you should find out 
what makes the prof think the film exists?

Basically only the remotest chance the film exists and is available to be seen 
but no harm in trying.
