[Videolib] FW: German Film "Im Labyrinth des Schweigens"

2015-10-05 Thread Karsten, Eileen

Dear CW

The German film "Im Labyrinth des Schweigens," is to be the official German
entry for Oscar best foreign film, whenever the Oscars are this spring. Will
the film be released in the US, with subtitles, so everyone can see it well
beforehand?

Do you think this will be the case? Is there any way at all to say when the
film might appear here? Do the Oscar nominated films get released on DVD
before the Oscars or soon after?

Thank you in advance for any information.

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues
relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control,
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication
between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and
distributors.

FYI there are about 100 films submitted in the foreign film category. Most
are never released in the US but there is no exact pattern for either
theatrical or DVD but the high end ones like this tend to be released
before nominations ( but rarely this early) in theaters and then after
Oscars on DVD.
Sony Classics is the major player in this and they also have this year's
favorite SON OF SAUL which they will open in December.

Charles,

I printed out the Amazon order. I will add it to the ones I place tomorrow
after the new releases come out.

I thought you might like to watch the trailer.

Beat me to it while I was typing. It will be playing around the US and has
English titles. I would estimate the US home video release for March/April.
The theatrical distributor is Sony Classics
